4For the price, you can not beat this bandsaw
By A. Blacker
If woodworking is just a hobby, then this bandsaw is a great choice. I'm sure that "for a few hundred dollars more", bandsaw 'X' is much better. However, a lot of people do not have a few hundred dollars more to spend. Fact is, the bandsaw did not even flinch at resawing 5" thick oak and did so reasonably accurately. After a month of usage, here are a couple observations. First, plan on spending a few hours assembling and adjusting the bandsaw. The better the job setting it up, the better it will work for you. I found the assembly instructions to be a little unclear in a few places and there were a few screws and nuts left over. For the life of me, I cannot figure out where the 'spare' parts are suppose to go.Also, you will want to purchase a 93 1/2" blade right away (a 3/8" 6 TPI blade seems like a good general purpose blade). Do not bother taking the time to install and adjust the blade that comes with the saw. Seriously, that blade will make you sad. And then you will end up redoing the work when you install a 'good' blade. The fence that comes with the bandsaw is OK, but you will have much better results resawing if you make your own resaw fence. The only complaint that comes to mind is that the saw seems to have a zillion orifices for saw dust to leak out of. Even if the bandsaw is the only thing connected to the dust collector, there is still sawdust all around the machine. One important thing to note is that the bandsaw ships via freight. If you are not familiar with dealing with freight companies, then keep in mind that they ain't UPS. They have their own way of doing things, so just go with the flow. After you place your order, Grizzly will send you an email explaining how delivery works. The important thing to note is that you are responsible for getting the bandsaw off the truck. It is a two (or three) person job and do not count on the driver helping. You MUST reply back to this email before Grizzly will release your order. I was told that for an additional $40 (on top of the $74 shipping), the freight company can make the delivery using a lift-gate truck and the driver will unload the saw for you. I chose to get the saw off the truck myself.Once your order ships, keep an eye on the tracking. The freight company should call you to schedule a delivery with in a day or two of the saw arriving 'in town'. If they do not call you, call them yourself to schedule the delivery. I was told that the bandsaw should be delivered on a regular truck between 9:00 and 5:00 and that the driver would call an hour before arrival. What actually happened was that the driver did not call and showed up at 5:15 with a liftgate truck. Since I asked nicely, the driver unloaded the saw and dropped it off in my garage. My experience with freight companies has shown this to be not all that unusual. To summarize: I am very happy with the saw and, like other Grizzly products, I expect that this saw will last a lifetime.

3It's OK..........but..........

I'm 53 and this was gonna be my great tool of my life. Well, it's the bottom of the line for Grizzly bandsaws. I guess I can't say I'm let down because it was under $400. BUT I paid $80 freight just because I thought this Grizzly would be wonderful. It's not. The instructions are OK. It took about 4 hours to get everything adjusted. It WAS quite annoying that the instructions really weren't in order, so readjusting the delicate guide apparatus over and over got on my nerves. When I fired it up, the whole dang machine wobbled a little and still does. I checked it as recommended to see if the two big wheels were ok. They are in line BUT not perfectly round or something. Hard to believe. While assembling one of the cheap-ish metal guides, I noticed a crack in the metal!! I called Grizzly, they were cool, and sent me a new part. It has a big old 4 inch dust port down low on the rear and you can't saw without dust collection. This sucks. I don't use it much, just for little stuff occasionally but without a shop vac or dust collector hooked up, fine dust is everywhere. Dust comes out of every crack and crevice and gets on the saw, the floor, the legs, and you. My previous little benchtop bandsaw shot dust out 1 little port and I tubed it into a box. Now I have to buy a dust collection system. I read these reviews and ordered a blade. YES, Grizzly sends this bandsaw with a REAL bad blade - cheap, not sharp, bad kerfing, just plain dull. Take it off, that should be Number One in the instructions. I should have gone to harbor freight and saved the Grizzly freight charge although down the road, Grizzly will have parts as this thing begins to fall apart. Oh, I had to turn the blade tension knob to change the blade 77 times!!!

5Bandsaw
By Douglas T. Martin
I now have three Grizzly tools and like them alll. Only thing I wish I would have done concerning the bandsaw is to bought the next step up that had ball bearing guides instead of solid metal ones. Very good saw. I had purchased a Ryobi one and finally gave it away. Could never get the blade to stay on the wheels.
