Great addition to your panel saw

I find the mid-way fence a valuable addition to my panel saw. It allows me to cut shorter pieces of wood without having to bend / squat low. This is a blessing for my lower back. The worst thing about this accessory is the instruction sheets which are poorly written.....and poorly copied. The included pictures are black and white....which make it harder to figure out. I think Milwaukee should include color photos and more photos to facilitate assembly.The package arrives containing 4 silver "rear support brackets", 2 red " fence supports, 2 white metal "support channels", 2 melamine wooden shelves, 1 stop block, 6 silver cams, and a bunch of bolts, washers, and nuts. Please note that pictures on line fail to distinguish the white support channels from the white malamine boards very well. On line images actually show each white melamine board stacked on top of the white metal support channel.There are some important things to remember when assemblying this accessory:(1) When laying the silver "rear support brackets" down. You will notice each silver bracket has two oval elongated holes. The longer of the two elongated holes are used to connect the white "support channel" to. The shorter elongated holes are used to connect the red "fence support" to. You will also see each bracket has a round hole on the top and bottom. These holes will hold the screws used to mount the mid way fence accessory to the back of your panel saw. Specifically, the accessory is screwed behind the "upper horizontal frame tube" and the Center horizontal frame tube. To mount this accessory, requires you drill four 7/32" holes into the back of your panel saw.(2) The red "fence support" will sit on top of the "center horizontal frame tube" of your panel saw. This red fence can then be leveled perpendicular to the saw blade prior to tightening the fence support to the silver "rear support brackets".(3) The melamine boards will act as shelves...one on the left and one on the right. Each shelf sits on 3 silver metal cams. When you tighten the cam bolts, this locks the shelves in place.(4) The stop block clamps onto the red fence support. The stop block is solid, and works very well. This is a 5-star improvement over using a piece of wood and a clamp as a stop block which is what I have done for a number of years.(5) prior to assembly check everything is square, level, and perpendicular to the blade. I used a couple of clamps to hold the accessory in place prior to drilling the 7/32" holes into the back of my panel saw horizontal frame tubes.Overall, I give the accessory 2 thumbs up for better woodworking ergonomics!

Milwaukee Panel Saw Mid-Way Fence modification

Contrary to some reviews, I found the instruction sheet adequate and the diagram helpful. It took me about 45 minutes to install it on my saw.The instructions state that the melamine shelf support pieces should initially be set 1/4" above the cross brace, so that there is some wiggle room for adjusting them square to the blade. I used some strips of 1/4' masonite as temporary spacers to make this easier. As the cross brace was square to the blade travel, the shelves were squared up, too.My saw is used in a small cabinet shop and I found the short (36") capacity of the existing stops too limiting. I substituted a five foot straight piece of 3/4" board on each side for the melamine shelves. The substitutes were the same width as the melamine, but notched and cut long enough so they overhung into the path of the saw. I ran the saw through eachto register the exact cut and screwed a small block to the new shelves outside of the fence so they can be reinstalled accurately. I wound up with two longer shelf pieces that show the exact blade kerf. To use this, mark your work piece where you want it cut and line that up with the indicated blade kerf. Very fast and very accurate.This panel saw is accurate and easy to use. The Mid-Way fence kit moves smaller work up to a more comfortable level while maintaing the accuracy inherent in the tool's design. A very useful, high quality accessory. Now if Milwaukee would only come up with a router carriage accessory for dadoing........

Milwaukee Panel Mid-Way Fence

This a great addition to your Milwaukee Panel Saw. When cutting small panels for shelves, etc., you will thank yourself for purchasing the mid-way fence. A word of caution, the directions that come with the mid-way fence aren't very good. Measure, measure, measure when assembling and mounting the mid-way fence. Make sure you have a long level to ensure the panel rests are exactly even before you drill the four mounting holes in the back of the saw arms.
