5Solid workhorse tripod
By T. S. Murray
I purchased this tripod in 2007. It has been superb. Plenty high enough, plenty strong enough. I changed the head and installed a Bogen 486RC2 ball head that can be very quickly moved to mono pod. Presently holding canon 7D with 70- 200 L lens. If this tripod EVER breaks I would not hesitate to buy again. I don't believe that will be anytime soon.

5Pretty sweet for the price!
By Brian Potter
No, this is not the 'best' tripod you can buy - but it's dang nice for the price. We use this for filming content for our local access channel. Nice, smooth panning - and easy to setup, complete with 1" markers on the legs of the tripod. It also has leveling bubbles on the top of the main tripod, as well as on the tripod head to level the camera mount. We did have an issue when we originally ordered and the bubble level on the head fell out, and one set screw on the head was broken. Their customer service was AMAZING and they shipped us a replacement head - and let us keep the damaged one (it still worked fine, but having just bought it, we weren't going to live with that). When you call Smith-Victor - you don't get prompts from a phone system - but a LIVE PERSON - not easy to come by these days. I also called back in few days after my first contact to follow up on things - and the customer service rep remembered who I was.All in all we've have a great experience with the tripod - the only thing I would like to see is the one set screw on the head be made out of steel rather than pot metal because it makes it easy to break.Even with it's flaw - I will still buy another one - because I know if it does break - Smith-Victor will be standing right behind it's product, making sure you have a good experience!
