5Tanita BC533 measures weight, body fat and so much more!
By Lee Mellott
For many years I used a digital scale that gave me a different readout each time I used it. I like to weigh daily but found that stepping up and down on the scale several times to get an average weight was frustrating. I thought that was the norm with scales until I started reading scale reviews and discovered that many people found the Tanita line to be accurate. If they weighed several times in a row they got a consistent readout. They did not have to take an average as I did with my Health-O-Meter. As a treat to myself, for losing 10 pounds, I decided to purchase a Tanita and after doing some research opted for the Tanita BC533.The Tanita BC533 is a state of the art scale that measures your weight (to two-tenths of a pound), body fat, visceral fat, bone mass, metabolic age and muscle mass. It is very simple to operate. You input your height, weight, average physical activity level and age. The Tanita will remember this information for up to four people so you only have to do it once, unless your information changes. (There is also a guest mode if a visitor wants to try it.) Once you have programmed the scale you toe tap your number, step on the platform and you will see your weight and body fat measurement. (Note - If you wear socks the body fat measurement will not work.) Then you can toe tap other buttons of your choice. A little figure gives you a visual cue as to what the buttons are. For example for muscle mass the figure is holding weights. For bone mass there is a tiny skeleton inside the figure. You decide which body composition features you wish to check. You may for example want to check your bone mass once a month, or then again you may want to check it weekly. It's up to you. It's as simple as pressing the corresponding button, and takes only seconds.Tanita has also introduced the Ironman Innerscan line. I was not sure of the difference so I called customer service. Amber went out of her way to explain the benefits of the Innerscan line, and the basic difference between the regular Innerscan and the Ironman. The Ironman gives you your BMI or basal metabolic caloric rate. This is the basic number of calories your body needs. The regular Innerscan (like the BC533) gives you your DCI instead. The DCI is a calculation where the BMI is multiplied by your activity level to tell you the number of calories you are taking in to maintain the weight you are. When you see this information you can then adjust up or down to help you gain or lose weight or stay the same. Nifty!Tanita includes a guide with the scale that explains exactly how the scale works. The scale is a bioimpedence device. A low level current (which you don't feel) passes through your body and the impedance or resistance level is used to calculate body composition. The booklet explains healthy ranges of body fat and also explains what body water percentage, visceral fat, etc. mean. The scale is also very attractive. Sleek styling and easy to use. Those with poor vision may find the buttons a little hard to see. But the visual clues will help. Despite the glass surface the scale stays very clean. The BC533 is an outstanding tool to help you accomplish your health goals!

5Very useful precision health monitor with stylish design.
By D. Chou
Being an avid swimmer, cyclist, runner, and outdoors fanatic, I decided to buy the Tanita BC533 to monitor my fitness beyond just body weight. I researched around the web and found mostly positive reviews on Tanita scales. I've also considered the Tanita Iron Man BC554 with similar user modes and more recall capabilites but the BC533 just looks more stylish: shaped like a chromosome. Amazon offered a good price with free shipping and a $30 gift certificate for Tanita Body Composition Monitors. Subtract another $30 from that if one applies for the Amazon visa: an Win-Win transaction! To get accurate measurements, one would need to obtain readings under consistent conditions, i.e., approx. same time of the day, no meals within 3 hrs., similar hydration conditions, etc. I found most of the functions to be helpful: Weight, %Body fat, %Total body water (makes sure one is not dehydrated), Visceral fat % (getting rid of fat around the waist), Muscle mass & Physique rating (making sure one is not losing muscle mass while reducing fat), Bone mass (making sure one is not calcium/mineral deficient and losing bone mass), DCI (Daily Caloric Intake=amount of calories one need to intake the next 24hrs. to maintain current weight)& Metabolic age (calculates one's Basal Metabolic Rate and age associated with that age). The BC533 comes with batteries, an easy to understand manual, and a body composition measurements guide. Holy moley, my metabolic age is 16!Updated 12-31-06: My Tanita BC533 is still working well. Periodic cleaning of the sensor surfaces has kept the weight measurements fairly consistent. The % body fat and other measurements tend to vary since users can't duplicate exact measuring conditions EVERY time. For <$50, don't expect "sports clinic" accuracy levels of physiological measurements. I exercise regularly and eat healthy foods (as much as I want) so preventing weight (fat) gain and maintaing muscle mass is not a problem; and this scale has been helpful.

4Tanitha BC533 Limitations
By SysEng
The scale seemsd accurate for body weight and relatively consistent with expectations for body fat %. Their algorithms for the other, dependent variables leave a lot to be desired. Their estimate of my skeletal mass, lean muscle mass, and required maintenance calories can vary by more than 10% overnight! Visceral fat rating shows much more stability. It's pretty hard to assess even the average accuracy of any of the outputs except for weight, for lack of comparison standards. The stability of the displayed weight measurement is nice, especially compared to the touchiness of analogue scales. Not exactly intuitive to set up and use, but not too hard to learn.Atractive, convenient structural design - I love the thin-ness - but it is tippy, so care must be exercised.

4Get this is you don't want to pay for Orff
By LoveNewBalance
I am not a professional musician by any means but like anybody else, I can tell when something sounds good. This instrument may not be an Orff, but I think it is wonderful. The Orff instruments are twice as much and I can't imagine they sound much better. My daughter has an Orff at school and she doesn't seem to notice any difference.

3Its pretty good.
By Chris Heistad
This thing is pretty good. Don't expect it to be super accurate though. The scale is right on, but the other stuff has quite a bit of variance. For instance, Its not possible for me to gain 10 pounds of muscle mass overnight. But it has registered that. With all that said, the extra measurements can be pretty close and provide a better measurement than me trying to caliper myself, etc... Trust the weight scale, but use the other measurements for trending over weeks or months. Knowing all this, I would still buy the thing.

4Love the product, but hate the beeping
By R. Clevenger
This is my second Tanita scale/bodyfat monitor. The first one lasted over a decade and worked well for me, so I bought this one which is an upgraded version. It seems more accurate (less variation in body fat) and tracks about the same as my last one (my weight and body fat didn't vary from the old scale to the new one). My only complaint is that it beeps several times as it goes through its paces. This might be fine for some folks, but if you have a spouse who gets up at 4:30 in the morning, you really might not want it beeping. I couldn't find anywhere in the manual where you could turn the beeping off. To me, it makes this scale really annoying. Other than that, it works just fine.

4Great Piano w/exceptions
By Noelle
Great baby grand for my 2 year old, however, the seat is too small for him (and he's a tiny boy). The seat is made for looks and not for comfort. It does in a pinch when he feels the urge to "jam" really quick, but if he's concentrating on what he's doing he'll get one of his foam blocks to sit on instead b/c it's more comfortable. Despite that, it's a great piano. I do wish there were a few more keys and it sounded more like a real piano, but otherwise it's great.

5Simplifying the installation of a great receiver/amplifier
By Douglas H. Haden
A glance at its back panel indicates the 998's abundant connectivity. If something doesn't meet your needs, you can probably reassign an unused resource: I have two DirecTV PVRs. For the first I used the 998's TV/Satellite s-video and optical inputs. For the second I used Video 1 for the s-video and reassigned the MD/Tape optical input to Video 1. I had only one tight squeeze: DVD has neither an optical input nor a way to reassign an unused optical input to DVD but it has regular (RCA) and digital coax inputs. Anyway, purists claim digital coax bests optical.I had never used optical or digital audio cables. I bought some from Amazon.com (search for "TOSlink" and "coaxial digital audio cable", respectively). Two aids helped me conquer the dual cornucopia of 998's features and connectivity: (1) I printed a copy of the 998's back panel (under Product Description above, click "Take a closer look..." in the photo caption to see a beautiful image of the back of the 998 then right click the image and print it). I drew in my components, speakers, and cables showing connections to the appropriate jacks. Great for planning. (2) What you read about the manual is mostly true. The data is more or less there but Sony could give Bill Gates lessons in inscrutability. I downloaded and saved a copy of the 998's manual (under Product Details above, click "View the product manual..." then save it). When I had trouble configuring the subwoofer-subwoofer isn't even in the index-Adobe reader found 55 references. (How can you use a term 55 times in only 63 pages and not have it in the index?)The 998's sound is great and it has enough power to drive my main speakers and several sets of satellites around the house. It has a full complement of signal processing (audio control) options, some of which you may not use: Though the 998 will synthesize low frequency elements and send them to the rest of the speakers, I like the sound and feel of a subwoofer. T. Orkus' review is right-on including the admonition to "hit that AFD button a couple of times". You step into and navigate menus with multiple pressings of the relevant buttons. Not as bad as it sounds. Don't hesitate to press a button several times. Once you become accustomed to the front panel metaphor, you will guess some undocumented remote control features.I have yet to move up from s-video to component-video cables but the 998 seems to have enough inputs and outputs; I've just bought some component cables. Why five stars given the less than wonderful manual? Because it works better than I expect of an under-$500 receiver/amplifier and because there are designed-in ways around all limitations I have encountered.

4Great AMP with some minor limitations
By T. Orkus
I probably got my hands on one of the first-shipped 998's this year. I was going to get the 997 but there's some added functionality that the 998 provides (and it's shiny-new). I've had it set up running 7.1 surround with my new JBL SCS300-7 for about a week now.Sound: Sound is great, but now quite as loud as I expected. I'm not sure if that's the speakers or the AMP though...but when I'm watching a movie and want it 'movie-theatre loud' I turn the AMP all the way up to max. Other that that, it's a huge improvement over my older SONY amp. It decodes all the new surround standards such as 96/48 and Neo6. Given that most DVDs I have are 5.1 it seems a bit like overkill in retrospect.Options/Configuration: If you're not familiar with setting up surround systems then be careful with this one. If you don't know what AFD, PCM, etc. mean then you're going to do a lot of head-scratching. It took me a while to figure out how to make the stereo decode (or emulate) surround in 5.1 or better. (Hint: hit that AFD button a couple times). The 998 has lots of connectivity options - 2 component INs, 5 optical/2 digital INs, along with s-video, composite, and a zillion plain audio INs. Also included is the option to assign different inputs to different things (i.e. video 1 can use the optical in labeled SA-CD). This is great - but the assignments are limited to their orig. listing and video 1/2. You can't, I've discovered, swap the digital DVD IN to TV or assign the TV optical in to DVD. Bummer. Granted, I could use Video 1 for my TV...but my OCD-ism wouldn't like that. One great feature is the upconversion from composite or s-video to component. This means that you can hook up everything - DVD, cable, satalite radio, VCR, ipod, CD, xbox, PS2, etc. to the stereo and run only a single cable (hopefully composite) to your TV.The on-screen setup is much easier than using the display on the AMP - another reason I chose the 998. The universal remote looks nice (and has a learning function) but i'm sticking with my universal touch-screen SONY remote from a previous system.Overall, I'm very happy with the DE998 despite a few minor shortcomings. If you're just looking for basic 7.1 then go a few steps down sony's 2005 line to the 898, 798 or 698. If you want a great reciever to switch all you audio AND video inputs then this is the one and you can't possibly beat the price.

5Many video inputs one video output
By J. Martinez
That was my goal in life. To have four video inputs from various sources and upconvert them to one video output. This would greatly simplify our lives!Well, I found it in the Sony STR-DE998.I have all of my A/V equipment connected into it and they all get upconverted to component video to my HD-capable TV. I had been looking for something like this for years. The video quality is great, too. Now, my wife can stop messing with the TV remove and switch the receiver instead. And the price on Amazon? Great compared to going to all of the major electronics retailers in the area.

5Great HD on a Powermac G5
By S. Kennedy
I have the EyeTV 500 hooked up to my Dual 2.0 Ghz G5 Powermac. I had trouble receiving HDTV over the airwaves, but that is because I am in mountain terrain far from the broadcast towers. When I can get a signal locked in, the picture is great. However, with the newest software the EyeTV 500 can decrypt clear QAM. This means that if your cable company does not encrypt their HD channels, the EyeTV 500 can decode it. Oddly, you have to hook up the cable to the "antenna out" jack if you are goihg to try to decode cable HDTV. On my cable system, I get ABC, CBS NBC and Discovery Channel HD.The picture quality is superb and recording is easy (but it takes many gigabytes per hour). I find myself wanting to watch TV on my Mac now because the picture quality is so good.Playing back full HD requires a G5, but G4s can play it back at a lower quality and it still looks really goood.Interestingly, recording itself is not processor intensive. It mearly dumps the data stream over the firewire port. But playback requires processing the data, which takes power. But in theory you could set up a recording station with an older mac. What I now want is a set top box that can stream HD content from my mac and display it on an HDTV. Such a device exists now (the Roku Labs Photobridge), but I have a strong suspiscion that newer and better devices, possibly even from Apple, are around the corner.Followup: The newest version of the software is a Universal Binary and is reported to run great on Core Duo Intel Mac Mini, displaying full High Definition content with no problems.

3REALLY ONLY FOR DUAL G5's.
By nuoptik
I bought the EyeTv 500 as a solution to my TV needs. Being a European in the US i miss very much widescreen broadcasts that i am used to there and so the HDTV option was the obvious. I have it running on a 20" 1.8Ghz iMac G5 with 1.26GB RAM and a 250GB HD (also another same external). I live in a ground floor apartment which has no external aerial hookup so i have indoor (rabbit ears) antenna plugged into it (i may get up on the roof later and see if i can patch into the antenna). The reception is not fantastic (though the strange thing about DTV signals it that you get no fuzz. it's a fantastic picture, but it can drop out for a few seconds at a time. it's not variable, it's either there and great looking or its not there.) The system requirements shouldn't really be so low. It really does require a dual G5. Unfortunately you can't live downsample the HDTV signal to a 720 or SDTV signal to suit your machine. HDTV signals are choppy. Not really an ideal viewing solution. Great if you have a dual processor G5 i'm sure. But for anything less, don't expect much. My solution is to record the HDTV programs (which is not proceesor intensive), then downsample and compress them (which still ends up looking better than a regular analogue US NTSC signal on a regular TV) and then watch the recorded downsampled programs.Note: EyeTV software only records the unadulterated HDTV signal. If you want to compress or change format you can export it (in EyeTV) to another format. But beware this encoding take a long long time. Turning a 30 minute recorded program into a MPEG-4 640x360 movie (which still looks really good from a TV viewing distance btw) it will take 4 hours (on my system which ain't the slowest by far!)To be honest with you i bought this unit to replace my previous solution of downloading bittorrents of HDTV recorded programs. These torrents have becoem less widespread due to certain file sharing law suits. I like to be able to watch only the programs i like. Most of the rest of american TV browsing i find to be depressing. I do have a solution in this. I now can replace these downloaded TV programs with a Legal alternative, however i now realise the work that the kind person who recorded those programs and compressed them and put then on the internet did.Result: If you've got a dual processor G5 and a good antenna hookup then get one of these. If you've got a lesser Mac and need to have a widescreen program (as i do) then get one but know that watching live TV won't be so good, and you'll have to wait a while before you can watch your recorded programs (a similar time it might be noted was required to download a program over the web). If you want TV on your lesser mac and don't care so much about widescreen signals, then get one of the normal non-HDTV EyeTV tuners (the 200 i think?).If your bugdet is not small.... fork out and get didicated hardware. i.e. a real HDTV and DVR. It may be much more expensive but you won't have to put in so much work to watch your TV programs!I'm not disappointed. But i am very techy and very Mac oriented. I wouldn't recommend this to someone who doesn't spend so much time playing around with computery things. If you already have trouble programming a real VCR then purchasing one of these is gonna result in your having less hair.hope this helped you. Sorry if i waffled.

4A Decent Receiver But Could Be Better
By Andre LeBlanc
For the most part, this receiver does its job well. It provides plenty of power and has an overall quality build and feel to it. One feature I really like is that, when listening to music, you can set it to multi stereo mode, which distributes stereo sound equally through all the speakers in your home theater system. Many receivers will only play CDs or radio signals in 2 channel mode, essentially shutting off the center channel speaker, surround speakers and, in some cases, the subwoofer. If you listen to a lot of music, you will really appreciate this feature. However, I do have a few criticisms. For one, I wish it allowed more extensive equalizer controls. As it is, you can just do basic adjustments to the bass and treble. . . nothing in the mid range. It does have preset sound fields for Hall, Jazz Club, or Live Concert effects. Unfortunately, these don't apply when you are using the headphones. The owner's manual could do a more thorough job of explaining some of the features. It devotes many pages to how to hook up your components, which will be self explanatory for most people, but devotes little space to the unit's unique features and quirks . . . or how to decipher the sub par remote control. The remote's buttons are small, cramped, and laid out in a confusing manner. Many of the buttons have different functions, which means you have to push one button in order to perform a specific function with another button. The buttons and labeling on the main unit itself are also small and hard to see from more than 6 inches away. But, overall, this is a good receiver for the money. With Sony, you can't really go wrong.

5Excellent, especially considering the price.
By Igor Obraztsov
I wanted a receiver that let me aggregate all input, have only one output to TV, and provided decent sound for my living room - and STR-DE898 fit the bill. Its ability to upconvert composite and S-video to component will come in handy once I upgrade to HDTV.Unlike other reviewers, I found directions very legible, and the remote is also very easy to program and get used to. Though I can see how it might frustrate people with oversize hands. I had no problem getting the remote to drive my DVD player, cable box, and 2 VCRs. Any functionality that is not covered by entering a manufacturer code can be learned via by-the-button programming. One caveat: you need to switch to needed source via remote. If you switch to say, DVD using dial on the receiver, remote will not know you are in 'DVD mode'. You'll need to press 'DVD' on remote in order for it to control DVD - and so on.A couple gripes: first, seeing how it has only two coax digital inputs, it is frustrating that you cannot assign a coax to an input that's covered by optical. I.E. my cable box has only coax digital out, but receiver has only optical digital in for TV/SAT, and you cannot assign the CD coax in over to TV/SAT. I ended up getting a coax-to-optical converter. Another: would love a bit more extensive equalizer. But seeing how I got this for just $265, I hardly have reasons to complain.

4Good stereo receiver with confusing directions
By Hellen R. Mazarakis
This was the only receiver I could find with all the features I desired and at an affordable price. The sound is wonderful. I can't emphasize enough the difference in sound between our old stereo receiver (which was expensive in its day) and this one. This one has a plug for phono (hurray!), a subwoofer hookup, dolby sound, surround sound, and a whole bunch of other features I have yet to explore. You can switch to analog for your phonograph. In fact, there are so many sound options that it's a bit overwhelming. I just flip around listening to good, better, best, and then leave it there. Quite unprofessional, I know, but it works for me.I took a star away from this great product just for its directions. It may have been a long time since I bought a receiver (my old one still has dials on it and no remote control), but I couldn't even understand what this instruction book was talking about let alone what it wanted me to do. Nevertheless, my instinctual desire to enjoy music took over, and I was able to get it all set up.

5Best Rawhide Ever
By Ruby
This is the first rawhide that has lasted more than an hour - I have Standard Schnauzers - heavy chewers. There is absolutely no splintering and the dogs love them. (plus they are 100% American) These will be the only ones I buy from now on!

5Rawhide retriever rolls
By arde
These are really thick rawhide rolls that last a very long time, even with active chewers. Plus, they are from the USA which is reassuring.

4Subtle, yet reliable...
By JC
I would have to agree with the previous user who said that the instruction manual was difficult to understand. Yet, I enjoy setting up components and speakers while trying to find certain acoustic angles throughout the room. In other words...the instruction manual really didn't bother me. Anyhow, the DE698 replaced an older Sony model (6 yrs. old) that had only Dolby Pro Logic (2.1 channel). I was impressed with the first model due to the fact that it never caused me any trouble. It was simply a respectable and reliable amplifier that I could depend on. Consider some of the following attributes of the DE698,Cons:1) There is no "optical in" for the DVD player. Only inputs for Video 1, SACD/CD, and MD/Tape. Not that big of a deal since you can connect the DVD into the Video 1 optical input, yet a hassle when using the provided universal remote (pressing between DVD and Video 1 to change the scene or turn up the volume).2) Through the DE698 is respectable, it isn't the best in comparison to the Denon's and Onkyo's out there. The reproduction of music and movies is considered by some to be average to above average. For myself, I can barely hear the difference between my friends ridiculously expensive Denon and the 698. Even though the Denon was three hundred dollars more, the Sony seems to reproduce the same quality. This is possibly due to the following issues: - The Denon was connected with 16 gauge Monster Wire (the lower the gauge = usually the better transfer of sound). Sony was connected with 14 gauge Audio Quest. - The Denon was connected with RCA analogue - bought from Walmart - between the CD/DVD and receiver. Sony was connected with Monster digital optical input/output between the CD/DVD.3)The DE698 is provided with a "Universal Remote." I'm pretty sure Sony doesn't understand the definition of "universal." To what extent you may ask? Well...I'm still using three remotes! And yes, I did read the manual for this task while setting up the rest of the system.Pro's:1) Fits nicely with other Sony Components. Light blue ambiance turns on the face plate of the receiver when Dolby Digital is available. Three optical outputs. Stable speaker connectors (they twist).2) The DE698 lets the listener tweak the sound within certain sound fields. The "Custom" mode is rather user friendly...and kinda fun (but i'm a guy).I guess my point is that a lot of people skip out on the wiring of their components which makes a $500 amp sound like a $200 amp, or perhaps the other way around. If you want a decent, respectable, and reliable receiver the DE698 is for you (at least it was for me).

3A good receiver, although that manual. . .
By E. Swanson
I recently bought a really nice Denon receiver at a really good price (comparable to the Sony DE698 regular price), but after hooking it up and teaching myself how to work it, I say my wife down to run her through it. That's when I realized that the Denon was just too complicated to run all my AV through one remote. There are little sliders to switch between "Audio" and "Video" components, and then the individual components themselves. Honestly, I would start out on some task, such as "go from the tuner to the DVD player and start a movie," and halfway through I would forget what it was I was trying to do. It was quickly clear that for the sake of our sanity, a change was needed.Well, I wasn't going to drop another $200 or so on a fancy universal remote, so I picked up the Sony STR-DE698. I had it hooked up in just a few minutes, since I was already organized from the Denon install. The remote offers far better initial integration with the Sony Wega TV and Sony DVD player we have.I was warned that if I thought the Denon was complicated, that the Sony would be twice as complicated. On the whole, I think the Denon offers more features and flexibility for the audiophile, but for people like us who just want a nice surround sound system the Sony is quite sufficient.I have to agree that the manual leaves a lot to be desired. There are some buttons on the remote that do not at all seem to be described in the manual. Here is one BIG TIP that it took me until the next day to figure out: When programming the remote to control other devices, use a narrow object (I used the end of one of the twist ties) to press the "RM SET UP" button. If you use your finger, you can't get it depressed far enough to activate the programming function.

4Nice, but weird connections
By APF
I like this receiver - it works well enough for me. The sound is clean and powerful. However; it is not without its quirks. Like one other reviewer mentioned, for digital DVD audio you do not get "optical audio in" for DVD inputs, but only coaxial. You only get optical audio for Video 2, so you if have to connect your DVD to Video 2, what do you use DVD inputs for? In my setup coaxial audio for DVD works well enough, but others may want optical. The setup menu on this receiver is not user-friendly at all - does not seem to have any logic that can be memorized or to help it be used intuitively.Sony seems to be loosing it lately: I had a Sony DVD changer, which started freezing after 1 month of use; my 1.5 years old Sony HD CRT TV's built in MemoryStick reader can't read MemoryStick over 128MB (!!!), this receiver has a frustrating setup menu and strange connections options. I got a great deal on this receiver from Amazon, which influenced the choice, but I am no longer a "Sony-only" customer like I used to be.

5Faster than driving to PetSmart!!
By M. Jones
I have an older dog with a very sensitive stomach, and this is the food that I've found works best for him. I love the fact that I can order it online for almost the same price as what I'd pay in the store. And amazingly, the vendor had the food shipped and on my doorstep well before I expected -- in fact, according to Amazon, it hasn't even shipped yet! Super fast shipping, and my dog appreciates it! My only suggestion to the vendor would be to reevaluate the packaging of such a large item. When it arrived, there was a small tear on the corner, and a few pieces of kibble escaped. I know the USPS was probably playing football with it, so it's just a thought. Overall, fantastic experience. I will definitly order from these guys again.

4Sound is amazing. Equalizer too basic. Menu system poor
By J. Nguyen
Sony STR-DE598 FM Stereo/FM-AM ReceiverI love everything about it except for the menu system. Everything is interlinked. For example, when the front speakers are set to a certain volume, the back can't go any higher than the front setting. Also, the menu system is not very navigable. I'd rather have an equalizer menu with separate settings for different frequencies. The only ones available are bass and treble. Otherwise the system is solid and delivers awesome sound. I just don't like the menu system and how the settings are not very easily tailored to a listener's specific taste. I would rate this 4 stars because of the sound which is its main function.

4Bargain Buy
By Bob-bo
Buying from Amazon was cheapest price especially with free shipping. Stepped up for more power per channel. Stayed in the Sony family. (Previous Sony surround, output to center speaker quit) Dislike the speaker hook ups in back, difficult to attach speaker wires and screw down connections. Overall happy with purchase.
