Product Description

The Basics:
Tablet-style notebooks are distinct from standard notebooks in two critical areas. First, they're built for portability, featuring super-slim profiles and lightweight design and construction. More importantly, they offer users an alternative method for inputting data. Those who prefer traditional data entry can take advantage of the integrated keyboard, while users who'd rather "handwrite" via digital ink can simply use the enclosed stylus to freehand sketch their ideas on the double-duty display screen. The HP Compaq tc4200 (PV984AW#ABA) Tablet PC is an extremely sophisticated model, offering more power and more storage space than most competing units and adequate 3D performance to boot. It isn't inexpensive, it isn't quite as compact as some tablets, and, like its competitors, it eschews a CD/DVD drive for the sake of size and portability. But the tc4200 (PV984AW#ABA) is just about as proficient a tablet that currently exists in the consumer marketplace.

Processor:
At the heart of any computer lies the CPU (or processor), a massive collection of miniature transistors that governs the speed and power of the entire unit. Some of today's notebooks are equipped with high-end CPU's on par with those found in top-of-the-line desktop PCs, while others are quick enough only for basic duties such as word processing, email and the like. Unlike many tablets, the tc4200 (PV984AW#ABA) does not opt for a super-low voltage, low power CPU. It instead brandishes an Intel Pentium M 750 running at 1.86 GHz. While not exactly as powerful as a high-speed Pentium 4, the Pentium M line of processors is nevertheless a step up on typical tablet fare. What's more, this CPU is one of the revamped Pentium M models with two full MB of Level 2 cache for even faster access to your most critical information. Though the system is not recommended for those ultra-demanding applications you usually reserve for your desktop, it will easily handle typical (and not so typical) mobile tasks. That's not something that can be said for many tablets.

Memory:
Computers typically store information on their hard drive, but they also keep frequently and recently accessed data in Random Access Memory (RAM) for faster retrieval. More RAM means more efficient computing, superior multitasking and less strain on your hard drive. The tc4200 (PV984AW#ABA) is equipped with a surprisingly beefy 512 MB of fast 400 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. This is the same amount of RAM you'll find in many of today's much larger notebooks, and it's more than enough for effective multitasking or running complex applications without experiencing periods of sluggishness. Furthermore, users can upgrade to the system's 2048 MB maximum.

Video:
CPU's are usually so busy doing basic calculations that they need help translating visual output to the viewing screen. This is the duty of the graphics card (or graphics controller), the best of which include "dedicated" built-in video memory rather than relying on "shared" portions of the system's valuable main memory. This system boasts an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900. Though not a controller with dedicated memory, it allocates more system memory than do most "shared memory" controllers and therefore better handles complex 3D images. 3D graphics performance this strong is a rarity in the world of tablet PCs, nevertheless the system cannot be considered a true gaming or 3D animation machine.

Display:
One thing you just won't find in the miniature world of tablets is a large display screen. The tc4200 (PV984AW#ABA) sports a 12.1-inch XGA display with sparkle-free glass, an ambient light sensor to optimize panel brightness, a wide viewing angle to allow you to better see your work when you're not poised perfectly in front of the unit, and a highly detailed 1024 by 768 maximum resolution.

Hard Disk:
A tablet with a 60 GB hard drive is not something you see every day. But that's precisely what you'll get with the tc4200 (PV984AW#ABA). This level of data storage is quite adequate for a full complement of typical mobile applications and files and even a library of space-hogging multimedia files.

Optical Drive:
An optical drive is essential in today's computing environment. A "CD-ROM" drive allows you to install CD-based applications and play music CDs. A "CD-RW" drive adds CD "burning", so you can also backup your important files to long-lasting discs and create personalized music CDs. With a DVD-ROM drive you can watch DVD movies. And with a DVD-RW drive, you can "write" home movies to durable discs and archive files to DVD (DVDs boast more than seven times the storage capacity of a CD). Most drives allow you to do a combination of all of these tasks. In order to maintain its portability and diminutive size, this system does not include an optical drive. However, it easily accepts external drives via one of its spare ports.

Audio:
The unit is equipped with an integrated mono speaker and a 16-bit Sound Blaster Pro-compatible audio card for superior sound than many tablets offer. External volume controls and mute buttons add further convenience.

Keyboard and Controls:
You can either use the enclosed stylus to enter data the "old-fashioned" way by writing upon the unit's foldable display, or tap in your input via the full-size keyboard.

Connectivity and Expansion:
The tc4200 (PV984AW#ABA) sports a solid array of connections. Communication facilities include a super-high-speed 10/100/1000 gigabit Ethernet interface for fast Internet surfing and email gathering, a standard 56K modem for low-speed dial-up connectivity, and Intel 802.11b/g wireless technology for cord-free online access in either Wireless-B or the much faster Wireless-G standards. Other key amenities include a trio of fast USB 2.0 ports for plug and play devices such as external drives and digital cameras, an S-Video out for high quality digital video feeds, and fast infrared for wireless communication with infrared-equipped peripherals. An IEEE 1394 FireWire port (commonly used for quick data streaming from digital camcorders) is not part of the package.

Operating System and Software:
The bundled software package is headed by Microsoft's Windows XP Tablet Edition 2005 operating system. Other applications include Microsoft Reader for Tablet PC, Sonic RecordNow! (for optional optical drives), and a variety of security and operational utilities.

Dimensions and Weight:
Many of today's most powerful notebooks are also the largest, weighing ten or twelve lbs or more and definitely too big and cumbersome for extensive, continuous traveling. These are often referred to as "desktop replacements". On the other extreme are "thin and lights" or "ultra-portables", super-miniaturized units that are typically less powerful than their larger brethren but weigh as little as two lbs and will often fit comfortably inside a large purse. Larger than some tablets, the tc4200 (PV984AW#ABA) is nevertheless more compact than most notebooks at just 11.22 by 9.25 by 1.35 inches and a wispy 4.6 lbs.

Power:
Powering the tc4200 (PV984AW#ABA) is a high capacity 6-cell Lithium-Ion battery.

5HP Tablet PC tc4200 bought refurbished for art, in 2010
By Some Guy
I bought this unit refurbished in 2010 about 4 years after the last review. It cost me only $366 as it is a few generations behind the curve. It arrived in pristine condition with a new battery AND an external cd/dvd drive, but with windows XP pro for refurbished computers service pack 3 (SP3 has all the tablet stuff built into it) instead of it's original XP for tablet PC's.The Amazon distributer was Complete Distribution Solutions LLC. They were flawless in getting this to me quickly and well packaged. At first everything worked great but it was slow. After deleting some unnecessary OS things, the on-screen keyboard and the pen operated keys on the bezel no longer worked, (Ok, something there was more necessary than I thought) but it was fast, and pen pressure still worked great. The on-screen keyboard software had been useless anyway, it worked perfectly right up until you tried to get it's output to go to the software running by pressing 'insert' which did... absolutely nothing (unless you cut with ctrl-c and pasted with ctrl-v, but since those keys were covered by the folded over screen... bam, head-desk) so I didn't miss that at all. But the bezel keys were actually useful, so I'm sort of still working the kinks out. Deleting those things was however my own fault. The wireless networking worked great and I was connected to my router and online in moments. The Ethernet connection to my big linux box was almost as painless.Everything that should install in XP that I've tried, (the GIMP, manga studio, Easy Painter Sai, Sketch-book Pro, Abiword, PC tools free anti-virus, Zone-Alarm), all of it has installed without a hitch. Possibly this is due to my having XP pro instead of XP tablet PC (tablet PC version is no longer distributed, SP3 contains all it's functions supposedly). This is my first laptop and it seems to fill that generic role pretty well. It managed connecting to the internet wirelessly at McDonalds ok. And I now have 60 GB of extra storage for my camera should I want to take a 'lot' of video somewhere.I bought this thing for drawing and painting as a 12.1 inch 'cintique' and it's working great for that. I have it connected to a USB km switch so my regular mouse and keyboard can control it (no need for any tablet PC special key non-sense). Only one art program I've ever tried works efficiently without keyboard access and that's autodesk's sketch-up pro. A lot of folks swear by it but I don't really like that one that much otherwise. Note I think a real key board is MANDATORY if you're going to do a lot of art and care about an efficient work flow. The on-screen keyboard and pen operated bezel keys worked fine the first several days, but neither could substitute for hotkeys on a real keyboard, they would be slower than using the menu's, even working perfectly. That's just not what they're for.I'm shocked that no one is pushing these things as art tools. None of the wacom equipped tablet PC's are advertised that way. Some with other digitizers are. I wonder if it's part of Wacom's license agreement with the tablet PC manufacturers. They don't want a tablet PC license fee replacing what I am sure is a much heftier profit from sales of the $1000 and $2000 cintique's. I can't even see any dedicated art software on any of the new ones. How very odd.Well, since It's my fault the extra buttons and on screen keyboard don't work and I'm sure I can fix that when I have time to do a custom re-install I'm giving this thing a 5 out of 5. Most XP laptops are slow out of the box due to stuff put on by the sales folks. I was just sloppy in taking it back off.

5Excellend Tablet PC
By Sean A. Gilpin
This is an excellent quality tablet pc. It seems to be very sturdy but at the same time fairly light. Overall I haven't had any problems with it. Keep in mind that an optical drive is not included. Everyone who sees it thinks it is really cool looking as most of the people I have worked with haven't seen a tablet pc before.

5Prince and Princess
By Gayla B. Cross
My Granddaughter Courtney imagined she is the princess and her playmate from school is her prince. She is hoping eventually to get the castle to go along with these two - but even without the castle she is using her imagination. Very well made and good quality - withstands punishment kids can give to toys.

5Outstanding product
By - Kasia S.
Expensive but worth an occasional splurge for those who are apprihensive on dabbing with pricey stuff.I first heard of this stuff from a long ago discontinued teen fashion magazine, where Jessica Simpson ( while I cant stand her personally) said this is a miracle in a bottle and that she even sleeps with this in her hair.I bought a bottle and was hooked; amazing stuff, it makes the hair slick, soft, fragrant, plain wonderful movie star hair.I buy it as if it was regular conditioner, I dont bother wasting time and money on many average conditioners out there, the more I use this the better my hair gets.YOu wont be dissapointed, it can also be found for about half price on Ebay, depending your luck!

51/35th scale detail in about 5 inches.
By M. Park
1/48th scale model kits are not as popular as 1/35 scale model kits. However, after trying this kit, I am sold.Tamiya released 1/48th kits with die-cast chassis. Some may say heavier chassis may increase the chance of damage if you drop the assembled kit on your carpet.I, on the other hand, like the heavy feel to the completed kit.It gave me the illusion of working on a heavy vehicle, rather than a plastic model kit. After all, that's why some automobile toys are made out of die-cast material. This kit has close to 150 parts. Needless to say, it's not a toy for toddlers. It has link and piece tracks that fit well around running gears, with sagging track details.Running gears take 2 sheets of sprues, superstructure and gun takes the other 2 sprues.Die-cast lower hull is in a blister pack stapled to one corner of the box, so it won'tcrush other parts in shipping.Without counting rivets, this is an excellent representation of StuG III B.Interior is bare, but bare interior is not unusual even for 1/35 scale kits.(Tamiya's bigger 1/35 StuG III B, however, has rudimentary interior with gun breech)Hatches can be opened or closed.Gun can be elevated and swiveled.Driver's visor can be closed or kept open. Some tools are molted on the fenders but they don't look too bad.The two problems I found were about 1/16 inch shorter looking gun barrel, and lack of intake grills.Fortunately there are after-maker barrels that can be purchased at 5-7 dollars a piece. Some after-market barrels exactly same length as the kit barrel, which would be useless. But Armorscale and RB barrels are longer and they fit perfectly.A builder can use some putty to extend the gun just a tad.(I found it difficult because of tapered end, and I just got after-market berrels)The other problem is that there are no engine deck grills supplied with the kit.But Tamiya left intakes open, without blocking them with plastic covers with raised grill detail. This means one could get an after-market etched grill set available separately from companies like Voyager. If those minor updates are done, this kit would turn out to be as accurate as 1/35 scale kit.Tamiya seems to dislike overly complicated construction methods.Fast builders should be able to build it within 3-5 hours.Meticulous builders would take up to 8 hours in assembly.Considering Dragon's 1/35 releases tend to take 2-3 times that time, this kit should be a breeze for an experienced builder.I would recommend this kit to a builder who may want to try his/her hand in slightly smaller scale.I thought I would never veer away from 1/35 scale. But this kit proved that I didn't have to stay with 1/35 scale to get the substantially similar level of detail.

I almost didn't order this cross, because it doesn't look like anything spectacular from the photo, but let me tell you how glad I am that I went ahead and did! It's just gorgeous, and looks like a much more expensive piece of jewelry than it is. Nice, heavy, substantial weight, very solid. Reminds me a bit of the spanish wrought-iron work. Looks spectacular on a silver omega.

4Not As Expected, But Still Good
By J. McHenry
My pedal has the smile logo, so it doesn't match the picture. Also, it didn't work at first! I found that the base plate, when screwed back on, was touching a bit of metal on the "in" plug, and thus shorting out, I guess - by loosening the nut and turning the plug a quarter turn I solved the problem. I suspect they test them without putting the back on, so don't return it just for this problem. Look for the offending spot by simply touching the interior guts of the pedal with a guitar plugged into an amp, and with the battery in. When my touch elicited a buzz, I found the problem. It sounds fuller (and less noisy) than a Boss DS-1, but gets darker when the fuzz is turned down. Not a hugely adjustable sound, but if Hendrix and Eric Johnson used one... also, they are giant-sized, so consider yourself warned. Complex chords sound like sludge at full fuzz settings too. It's a fuzz pedal, after all. And, it only takes a nine volt battery, and the back plate is clunky to re-screw on. Plus, my no-slip thingy was unsticking itself, like another person mentioned. Not perfect, but simple and tough, so it's a trade-off. I consider the full on fuzz sound hard to recreate, so I like it.

4Mmmmmm..... Germanium
By David T McKenna
Silicone or Germanium? I think both are valid choices so you are not going to hear me say one is "better." That said, when I learned that the Fuzz Face was being re-released with a germanium transistor I HAD TO HAVE ONE. Fresh out of the box, I was a bit disappointed to find that the foot guard did not stick to the center of the unit. I'd push it down and it would stay for about five minutes before popping back up again. Admittedly this is a small issue but you would think that for the money, it would have a decent adhesive. I do however really like the rubberized knobs as I find myself often tweaking them with my feet as I play, so that was a superior choice over hard plastic. Now for sake of understanding where I am coming from sonically, let me say that I play only single-coil guitars through this pedal (Strat, Tele, & Jaguar). With that in mind, if I have both the "volume" and "fuzz" knobs on the pedal at max, and the volume on my guitar at full, you really cannot tell the difference between the neck and bridge pickups at all. It is one big sonic mush. But I found that by turning the guitar volume knob down to 5, I get plenty of delicious distortion with a tangy high-end bite. If I want to go to a fuller sound I may go up as high as 8 which sounds like a wild animal trying to rip through my amplifier. All this is a byproduct of the slew rate on this pedal, which is fast and furious, but I can dial in what I want very easily. Beyond 8, the low end just starts to get out of control so I just don't go there anymore. Once I figured out that bit, I REALLY started to like this pedal. It sounds exactly like what I want a germanium transistor to sound like: Full, Deep and MEAN.

4Jim Dunlop Fuzz Face
By tango
The Fuzz Face is a very good sounding replica of a classic fuzz pedal. It is not very versatile, but offers a very accurate fuzz tone. This Fuzz Face has a Germanium PNP transistor instead of a silicone one. The Germanium is a little fuzzier and dirtier sounding. If you want the silicone transistor you should look into the Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face, which is also manufactured by Dunlop.

5Highly Recommended Purchase
By Quiguen
My twin daughters first received the Pop Onz Building Bag (or whatever it is) for their first birthday. Although they were uninterested for about six months, Pop Onz have become amongst their favorite toys. We purchased this table when they were about 20 months, and almost four months later, it is still played with daily. As far as its educational aspects, the entire Pop Onz system is great for building hand/eye coordination, and we have used the blocks to teach and reinforce colors. (I tell them to bring me a yellow block, for instance, and they come running, yellow Pop Onz in hand. Also, we match the animals, which are predominantly one color, with a regular block.)I have not had to replace the batteries in the table yet, and, like I stated above, we've had it for at least four months and it gets used most of every day.My only complaint would perhaps be that it is somewhat of a pain to clean between all of the little nodules! That's not a true criticism of the product, but it is an observation I have made.We actually purchased this table for a playmate because it is so hugely popular at our house.I would highly recommend this toy.I'm adding the following to my review: We've now had this toy for eight months. Several weeks ago, milk was spilled onto it. It started playing incessantly a very blurred version of the songs. Only by switching the whole thing off would it stop. Although I'm sure the manufacturer doesn't recommend it, I took it apart with only a screwdrive and let it air dry for a day or two. I even put the yellow plastic piece, which has no electronic attachments, in the dishwasher. Then I put it back together, and it works beautifully and looks as good as new! Again, I bet it doesn't say anywhere in the manual to take the toy apart, but I think it's nice to know that it can be done if necessary.

5One of our FAVORITES, STILL
By Mom of 2 boys and a girl
My daughter LOVES this toy! We purchased the toy last Christmas when she was 19 months old. It was the first toy she picked out from under the tree to play with, and she still loves it to this day at almost 3 years old.The table went together easily, has stayed together through all three of my kids carrying it around, dropping it and pulling it across the floor. The area for storage is great and holds more than what comes with the set. The pieces are great for little hands and snap together easily. My five year old even enjoys this toy, seeing how high he can stack them up, which is pretty high by the way.I would highly recommend this toy! We like pop onz better than the Little People sets! Great toy!!!

5Great toy
By J. Forrest
I bought this for my 2yr. daughter last Christmas. She still loves playing with this toy. And she has not been able to destroy it, no matter how rough she is with it. I have never had any problems like mentioned before with the leg. You just have to push really hard to attach it. I highly recommend this toy.

5Well worth the money!
By Stuart Wagner
I searched long and hard for a decent XLR, phantom-powered shotgun mic in the $200-400 range, and I have to say, I'm glad I found the Azden SGM-1000. Not only is the sound quality better than I expected (warm and natural, not at all tinny), but the size and weight also make it a perfect boom mic (the bottom of the shockmount is tapped to allow poles to be attached via 3/8"-16 threads).Overall, I am very happy with this mic, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for good audio equipment on a budget.

To reach seller for some information is disappointing, wouldn't respond to e-mails, not to mention there's no tel number provided

5My boys love this!
By Senora Gose
This train system wasn't my first choice - I wanted wood, and we have that, but THIS is the the ones the boys pull out to play with. Since the time the oldest was 2 1/2 (He's 3 1/2 now) and the younger was just under a year (he'll be 2 in a couple of weeks), they have loved to play with this train set. It's durable hard plastic, the links snap together fairly easily for 2 and up, and they don't come apart when our 9 month old daughter crawls over to get the other side. The sound effects aren't at all annoying (to us - and we DON'T do a lot of beeping and such in this house!) The only thing is the bridge is a bit hard to snap in for a child, but no problem for adults. Great colors, sturdy decals that haven't budged yet...all in all, a great toy, that I hope to expand on for all three children!

5VERY DURABLE!
By Samuel Dylan Hrncir
My 2 year old received this for Christmas. He is almost 3 now, we moved during the summer and he was SO excited when he finally got his train back (it spent 3 weeks in transit). He loves to set up the bridges so that the train just runs right over the side and lets the engine of the train fall off of tables and down stairs. This engine just keeps on going! Our 10 month old likes it too, so we know that it's going to last through these two boys.I intend to purchase more Geo Trax sets because this has been such a wonderful set!

5Love this set - Awsome
By R. Martinez
My son got this train set when he was two. He is now four and still plays with it almost everyday. We have purchased a lot of the additional pieces and have added four more of the trains. All the kids that come to our home love playing with this train. Him and our two year old daughter play together for hours. It is easy to for them to put it together and now after two years he is a able to do quite fancy layouts. I truly recomend this train system.

5Made in America with steel wheels and 1/2 ton capacity
By L. Wesner
If you need a LARGE hand truck, this one is excellent. I purchased this to move rocks around my property when building a rock retaining wall.It is WIDE (2 ft) and TALL (>5 ft) and has a very large base and integrated wheel fenders/protectors. The tires are much bigger than a typical hand truck. Rolls easily over rough terrain. As long as you don't intend to use it in your house or go through interior doors with it, this is well worth the price. The shipping brings it up to around $150. I think it will last forever. It is at least twice as good than the plastic "600 pound" (yeah right) variety from the home improvement store. The metal wheels are nice and it has knobby treads.I was able to move 300 pound boulders with ease.

5This Thing Rocks
By R. N. Bray
I've been using this sturdy hand truck to move 400-500lb rocks as part of building a retaining wall. I had a load of boulders delivered by a quarry and they were much larger than expected. I read the review on this truck and figured it was worth a try, prior to getting heavy machinery involved. This hand truck has exceeded my expectations and I'm amazed at the size stones I have been able to move. The limiting factor in moving monster rocks is my ability to put enough weight into tipping back the truck when a massive stone is loaded on. I highly recommend this truck for moving rocks and many other uses. I'll probably be using it for moving outboard motors as well.

5Built like they used to!!!
By B. F. Matson
I have a Milwaukee hand truck (600LB unit) I purchased 12 years ago and it is still in mint condition after many moves and countless boulder haulings for walls. I moved an entire shop full of 500 to 600lb machines and it handles them great. I cant wait to see what this new one will do around the ranch! My son thinks the old one is a go-kart so, this one should be a Hummer.
