MASSIVE!
By Jay Smith
I put two of these in my Fender Hot Rod Deville 2x12 and the sound will melt your face! I like a lot of low end in my guitar sound (for stoner/doom metal) and my stock fender speakers just weren't cutting it. After emailing Eminence (by the way, their customer support is awesome) to find out what they suggest I use for my sound, I bought two Swamp Thang 12" 8 ohm speakers based on their advice. These speakers provide plenty of bottom without sacrificing the clarity of your mids and highs. The Eminence site recommends putting these in a closed back cabinet/enclosure but the sound is massive in my open back Fender Deville. They also recommend these for the Blues, Rock, and Jazz genres. Don't let this fool you! If you want a doom inspired, sludgy metal sound get these speakers and a Big Muff now!

Swamp Thang Good
By trailwalker1
I ordered the Swamp thang after a lot of research on the web and through amazon. when I received it I ordered it for a 2x12 cab that I am building but in the meantime I have put it in my Blues Jr amp WOW! what a bigdifference it made, my Blues Jr sounds amazing the tonal difference is incredible the Swamp thang gives a creamy clear sound with a great bass response its great. I hope this can help someone else who is new to playing and looking for their tone

Great speaker
By W. Bittle
I have built several vacuum tube guitar amplifiers and tried several different speakers. My goal was to have a speaker / amp combo that could deliverjazz like clean sound, but when pushed, deliver that classic 50's rock n roll sound. A couple months ago I built a reproduction of a Fender 5D8Tweed low power Twin and wanted a pair of speakers for it. Of course, since I kind of wanted this Twin to be as close as possible to the real thing, I opted for Jensen vintage speakers. Well, I now remember why we used to toss those things and replace them with the newer speakers when I was a kid. The amp had no clean headroom and was all midrange and upper midrange. To be blunt, it may have sounded like some of these amps did in the day, but it sounded like crap to me. The amp had no clean headroom with those speakers. I returned those speakers and ordered a set of Swamp Thangs. All I can say is WOW! These speakers are what I wish I had back in the late 60's. These things offer up smooth clean jazz like sound with rich lows, and mids as well as smooth highs when the amp is played clean. Crank the Twin up and these speakers give you that pushed tube amp sound but without the raspy harshness of those old AlNiCo speakers with their weak, flappy cones did. This speaker has it all. The Tweed Twin is an open back cabinet design and these speakers seem to work very well in this type of a cabinet. I have also run a bass guitar through the Twin and the tone is excellent. I hope to get another pair and try them in a closed back bass cabinet to see how they would perform in an actual bass amp. These are a fairly efficient speaker, so if you are hoping to tame some 100 watt amp, it isn't going to happen. But with a single 12" and a 25 watt amp, the speaker is great and won't bust your eardrums in a small club or even during a practice in a 2 car garage. Use an amp like my Twin with two of these and you get a huge sound out of the amp. The combination of the 50's vintage Tweed Twin and this speaker is very pleasing. Both the amp and this speaker are very smooth sounding and can be cranked to quite high levels without inducing the ear fatigue normally associated with amps in the Bandmaster, Bassman and low power Twin power range. Of course I must say that the amps I build are all cathode biased with conventional paraphase phase splitters. So your results may vary if you use the newer class AB2 designs using the higher powered output stages. Is it the best speaker on the market? probably not. But, for the money I doubt you will find a better speaker. And the ones I find that may be a little better are not enough better to justify their cost. Another speaker to consider is the Texas Heat in this line of Patriot speakers by Eminence. But, for me, I'm sticking with the Swamp Thang. It is just plain a darn good speaker that sounds great and is made right here in the USA.
