5Awesome blade!
By etc
Awesome blade in my DeWalt miter box! Much much better than the DW3128 DeWalt blade that I got for free! The cuts are the best I've seen. I also bought the LU80R010 for my table saw sled; that's how impressed I was with this blade. The LU85Rxx has a slightly narrower kerf and the hook angle is larger, that's why I went with this one for cross-cutting. The lower hook angle is exactly what you want in miter box anyways if you research online.I'm not sure about the difference in wear of a lower hook angle. I'll update this if the blade gives me any issues, but right now, I'm very very impressed with it!

This is the best blade we have found for cutting HDO plywood. We have try many others, but none cut or last as good as LU80RO12. The only down side is it cost little more to get them sharpen.

5incredible plasma
By W. Burk
I researched and personally looked at around 2 dozen 50" plasma displays at different local stores and by far the picture produced by the panasonic 500u blows away everything out there. My dad has a pioneer elite 50 which is great but we both agree the 500u's picture accross all colors and shades is far superior. It displays HD signals flawlessly and everything looks layered, If you have not seen a HD sports program you are missing out! As far as finding one of these was almost impossible, Online retailers advertise a low 3500 dollar price but can never deliver on their promise. I got the run around for 2 months from east cost retailers and finally found one at a local dealer , ended up paying 1000 dollars more but at least its sitting in my living room all hooked up and running. Pay the extra money for the 500u over the panasonic 50px. It has more features and the stand looks much better. Dont be fooled into paying 3000 or so for another 50" HD plasma! Good luck finding one. Andersons TV in Dublin, Ca has 2 left in stock.

5Panasonic TH50PX500 vs Samsung HP-R5072
By Steve
Initally purchased the Panasonic from Amazon. I received it damaged, so I had to send it back. They didn't have any left in stock, so I decided to purchase a 50" plasma from a local dealer. None of the locals had the Panasonic that I wanted, so I went with the Samsung HP-R5072. I had the Samsung for 20 days before I returned it and purchased the Panasonic TH50PX500.All-in-all, the picture on the Samsung had a good picture, but it did not have near the picture clarity and color vibrance that the Panasonic has. Additionally, this Samsung model has and "electronic program guide" - not to be confused withe the "TV GUIDE" version. Needless to say, the Samsung version did not work and requires each channel to transit their program information and that just does not happen. The Panasonic TH50PX500 does have the "TV Guide" version and it worked great. Finally, the split screen cabability and integration capability with other Panasonic products put the Panasonic over the top when compared to the Samsung. One last thing, the Samsung remote is very minimal as far as capability goes. Panasonic has this beat hands down.

5Terrific!
By D. Gow
Like many others I've been waiting for plasma to drop into the barely afforable price range. The Consummer Reports review sent me to the stores. I looked at every plasma set I could find and when I could watched them next to LCD and projection HD models. Every one looked good, the 500U looked better. Good quality DVD (Superbit Lawarence of Arabia or the Fifth Element for example) look terrific at 480P via component or HDMI inputs. Good as it was out of the box I tried a video tuneup disc and both DVD and HD movies were impressively close to film. and I bought locally at a specialty store so even with a discount from the general retail price in this area, delivery and painless setup were included. That is some thing to consider if you buy. The set weighs 114lbs. My wife gave my a hard time over the price, but the set looks good and is slim enough even with out a wall mount to sit tight against the wall.Negatives:Standard Def cable is not as good as on a CRT, especially if streched, but it is very acceptable six or eight feet back. It has only has one HDMI input.

The Definitive High Definition Plasma With the TH42PX500 plasma TV, Panasonic has achieved picture quality that is sure to blow you away. The TH42PX500 displays over eight billion (that's right... over 8,000,000,000!) colors and 2048 shades of gradation. The stunning 3000:1 contrast ratio ensures exceptionally rich blacks and terrific color. The result is arguably the most detailed plasma TV in the world. The TH42PX500 boasts the new Digital Access Pack: a group of features offering the essentials for digital and high-definition viewing. It includes built-in ATSC and QAM tuners to receive digital content over-the-air or via cable, so there's no need for a set-top box. And it's CableCARD ready, which makes digital cable reception as easy as inserting a card. Simply put, it's digital made easy. The Digital Access Pack goes beyond DTV reception. It includes HDMI, which enables the transfer of high-definition video and audio via a single cable. That means you can enjoy HD entertainment without the inconvenience of numerous tangled cables. A Step Ahead The PX500 series offers a few special feature that the PX50 series doesn't have. First off, you get the convenience of SD/PC card slots. These slots make it easy to view photos taken with your SD Memory Card-comaptible digital camera. You don't even have to connect a cable. There's also TV Guide. This built-in program guide provides a handy on-screen list for checking what's on the tube. It also makes it easy to set up the recording of a broadcast on your DVD recorder or VCR. A PC Input lets you connect your computer and view images on your plasma panel. Another handy feature is the Multi Window function, allowing you to watch two programs on the same screen. The sound system is also different, and you can read more about that below. Now Hear This Incredibly slim and elegant, you'd never guess that the TH42PX500 includes an integrated speaker system. 5Worth paying more for the 500U than the 50U
By Chitta R. Baral
This model (Panasonic TH-42PX500U) is a lot more expensive than the Panasonic TH-42PX50U. The difference in prices in amazon for both items is a bit too much. This model is not available in most chain stores (Cicuit city, best buy etc.). A local store had both models and I could buy this model for a couple of hundred dollars more. I think for $200 more it is worth it, as it has the following advantage over the 50U.1. 500 U has 6 speakers (2 bass-reflex woofers: 6 ohms, 120Hz-2Khz, 10%THD) (4 tweeters: 8 ohms, 500Hz-15Khz,10%THD) 26 W power. VS50 U has 2 (16W, 6 ohms, 105Hz-20KHz 10%THD)2. 500 U has BBE ViVA HD3D sound.3. 500 U has a photoviewer (SD and PC card slots).4. 500U has Sd card slot5. 500 U has 2 rear and 1 front composite video input vs 50 U has only 2 rear ones.6. 500 U has 2 rear and 1 front S-video input vs 50 U has only 2 rear ones.7. 500 U has 2 rear and 1 front audio input (for video) vs 50 U has only 2 rear ones.8. 500 U has PC input (RGB-VGA) i.e., mini D-sub 15-pin (rear)9. 500 U has a audio input for PC (M3 stereo plug)10. 500 U has a TV guide on-screen program guide.11. 500 U has Picture-in-picture (split screen display -- 2 sources)12. 500 U power consumpition is listed at 357 W and for 50U it is listed at 399W.13. 500U dimensions: 28.7" X 44.&" X 5.4" 50U dimensions 27 39/64" X 42 3/64" X 3 51/64"14. 500 U is 88.2 lbs; 50 U is 76.06 lbs.15. The stand for 500U has a swivel but not in 50 USo far i am very happy with my 500 U. My only wish was that it had two seprate inputs for cable and over the air programming.

5Beautiful picture!
By T. Huynh
Panasonic has proven again that they do make one of the best plasma TV out there. My TH-42PX500U arrived from Amazon is one perfect shape. Setup was super easy. The beauty of this plasma is viewing the HD channels...the quality is unbelievable.Yes, I did my extensive research before making my purchase.I researched LCDs and DLP LCDs (rear projection) as well as other plasmas.Pioneer PDP-4350 and Sony plasmas were considered until I compared the picture quality side to side at the store.Bottom line: the picture quality of Panasonic 42PX500U is equal or better in most cases. My only complaint: the TV only has one input feed for RF antenna. I would prefer two (as Sony and Pioneer do have) input feeds where I can connect an DHTV antenna and as well as cable antenna.Other than that, it's worth the keep!

5Beautiful picture
By Quoad Toad
This is a great tv. The picture quality is supurb. The images from HD programs are especially impressive. I've had this tv for 2 months now and have no complaints.Features that set this tv apart from others:-PCMCIA slot - with a PCMCIA adapter you can use almost any camera memory card to view photos on your tv.-Even standard definition channels look great on this tv. I know some people have had complaints that standard definition doesn't look as good as on a normal tv, but for wide aspect tv's, this one has great images in standard definition.-Nice sound/invisible speakers - You can hardly tell that this tv has built in speakers. The tv itself is black and the speakers blend in perfectly. I used the tv speakers for a month before getting a new receiver and they worked great.I researched pasma tv's for a couple months before selecting this model. The price is great (purchased for around $2,700) and the picture quality is excellent.

3Good TV but has it's problems.
By SilverZ
I've had this TV for 2.5 years and it has held up well.It does have a problem with the EPROM getting corrupt. This will happen probably after year 2. You will get 2"-4" red, blue or green spots on the TV that shows up with certain lighting. The spots are static in that it stays at the same area.Hats off to Panasonic. They did own up to the problem and repaired it out of warranty. The fix was fairly quick....15 minute process to upgrade (reprogram) the EPROM.

5Stunning HD Picture for a great price
By Rajesh Mummineni
Strengths: Life like HD Picture and good sd picutre, sleek design, easy to use remote, sd card readerWeaknesses: No built-in TV guide, could use a second HDMI and co-ax inputsSummary: I have been looking to purchase a big screen HDTV for the past year. After some initial research last year, decided to waited another year to let the LCD technology mature and HDMI technology become common on TVs.This past 4 months, I looked at Sony 3LCD TVs and Toshiba DLP TVs very closely. Sony has good picture but did not have picture-in-picture in this years models and styling looked decades old. Toshiba's 1080P TV was very good with a ton of inputs and comparable pricing but somehow I did not feel comfortable with the Toshiba brand. My research indicated that almost all major brands have good picutre quality so the deciding factor came down to other features like inputs, pip and brandname. The picture quality in Best Buy and circuit city did not look close to what I get at home with a progressive scan DVD. For some reason, the stores want to sell Sonys more than anything else so they hookup Sony with best input and cables and leave Panasonic with ordinary cables making it look inferior.I have been a Sony or Panasonic brand customer so I decided to buy a Panasonic. For some reason, Panasonic does not have many LCD projection models and this was the only newer one in the 55+inch range. I was very impressed with the features ( sleek design, pip, inputs, sd card reader ) and price.I am an avid internet shopper but for reason did not feel comfortable making such a huge purchase online but the price difference between bricks and mortar shops to internet shops like Amazon compelled me to take a chance. The TV was delivered in perfect condition and they even set it up in the room of my choice. The TV design looked much better at home ( up close ) than in stores. It weighs a lot less than my old 27inch tube TV.HD Picture:I hooked a $20 HD antenna to the TV and boy, was I impressed with the picutre quality? Local HD channels looked lifelike. I just could not believe my eyes. This is using a co-axial cable and NOT HDMI. I am glad I did not fork over a fortunate for a Plasma TV because the HD picture quality is just as good as that of a plasma TV.DVD Picture:Make sure you get a Progressive Scan DVD player to enjoy good quality movies. The quality won't be as good as HD but it is very good. I used component video cables to connect my DVD player. I could see significant difference in picture quality between a regular DVD player with composite cables and a progressive scan DVD player with component cables.SD Picture:SD picture ( Dish network ) quality is more than satisfactory. It is not as good as my old tube TV but that is expected and I am very happy with the quality. There is even a significant difference in picture when connected using S-Video or composite cables. I just wish there was an additional co-axial cable input so that I can hook both the antenna and the dish receiver using co-ax cables. For now, I have not decided whether to upgrade to HD receiver from dish or wait because I heard that the output from dish network HD receiver is something like 480p and there are not a lot of HD channels available outside of local channels.I am sitting about 10-15 feet from the TV. I do not notice a lot of grainy pixels from less than 10 feet also although it is not wise to sit that close. HD picture look great from any distance. The remote is very easy to use. The SD card reader is handy although I noticed that it is better to view your picture on a laptop than on a TV. It is just painfully slow on a TV when compared to a computer. The SD card reader can be useful when you don't have a computer(laptop) handy.I have not used the PC input yet. I don't intend to use a 61 inch screen as a my PC input anyways. The TV does not look big in my family room as I suspected. The TV is much smaller than a 60inch Sony model and looks 100times better. It is a great upgrade for me and the details I could notice on this TV are stunning. As I said before, I love the HD picture on this TV. I watched a Pistons game the other day in HD and it was better than being in the stadium :) The detail on the big screen was just awesome. I watched the SuperBowl on ABC in HD with digital audio connected to my Bose surround system and it was simply a superb experience. HD picture is just as good as on a Plasma TV.Overall, this is a great TV. I am glad I purchased this over Sony.

5Best choice for cost overall!
By J. Travis
I purchased my TV from Costco for [...] a few weeks ago.I spent extensive time researching the different types of flat screen tvs and the pros and cons of each.Currently, I feel the rear projection televisions are the best for the cost. Here is a brief explanation why:1. Near impossible to get burn in. You can, but you almost have to try to make it happen. I have only read of one review where the fella actually ran his at 4:3 constantly. Of course you are going to get some type of burn in on the left and right hand sides of the picture.2. Picture quality is very good. I have noticed that the plasma is a bit crisper, but in all seriousness, you can't really notice a considerable difference unless you are viewing the new dvds.3. Cost Cost Cost. The 42" plasma panasonic is the same exact price, and has roughly half the lifetime if treated correctly.4. HDMI/SD. This TV doesn't have the common glitch that a lot of the sony and samsong sets do when trying to switch from an incoming HDMI connection to any other type. I am free to swap between my HDMI dvd player, to my playstation 3, and then to my standard Digital Cable connection. This was the main deal breaker between this and the Samsong rear projection television. As far as cons go, I can only find the usual in all flat screen televisions.1. Viewing closer than 3 feet is not good. And at hard angles, for example, lying flat on the floor, can be a bit harsh.Since it has been in my home, I have placed it on a corner in the living room and can view it without a problem within the full 90 degrees of the room without noticing any distortion. No signs of burn in and it still runs flawlessly.I would recommend this television, or any of the other same style panasonic rear projection LCD televisions. If you are looking for the standard flat without the deeper back I would recommend going towards the Panasonic plasma televisions. I checked the 42" model out extensively and found it to be superb in view and style, as well as input switching.

5Panasonic stands by this product!
By Heather E. Risdon
I really love all the features on this tv... but what I really wanted to share is that Panasonic gave us superb customer service with this unit! We purchased this tv in Nov. of 2005. About two years ago we noticed a green spot about the size of a baseball on the tv that never went away. After awhile the spots started to multiply (6 green spots and 2 blue spots as of Jan 09). I finally had enough and called Panasonic and they fixed it for free! Sent a tech to my home and extended the warranty to cover the problem! They said that they reprogrammed an eprom--but whatever, go Panasonic!

5The Kids Like it a Lot!
By M. Clayton
This television is in my daughter's room because she plays video games with her friends, and watch a lot of television shows, movies, etc. I really like that there is a stand below it- somewhere to store her game systems, bluray player, and a few other little gadgets that they hook up to the television themselves. They even have the computer connected to it at times, as well as their smart phones to play videos. She has had this television since she was 10 and is 15 now and has always easily connected the bluray player, or dvd player, or game console on her own without help from an adult. Apparently it's easy to use. the only problem I have with it is right now: a message pops up on the screen saying that the lamp needs to be replaced- so I have to find a new lamp. Otherwise, it's great.

4Good value - useful all-in-one lens
By A. C. Sisto
Like a baseball player with a decent batting average, some power, a little bit of speed and fairly good fielding ability, the Tamron 18-200 lens won't be an All-Star any time soon because it does not excel at any one thing. But, like that $500k/year utility infielder, this lens DOES provide a very good all-around value for what it is. Does it compare to a prime lens at either end? Heck, no. Is it a good lens to use when you can't carry a wide choice of lenses with you? Absolutely.I've been using this lens on my 20D quite a bit and have only a few minor gripes: it tends to hunt for AF (especially as you get closer to 200mm), and it's not the quietest lens I've used.An earlier reviewer mentioned that it maxed out at about 160mm. My own analysis shows that it is short of 200mm, but not by that large an extent; I found it much closer to 190. Still, there's no doubt that these zoom lenses with extreme ranges like this have a built-in fudge factor.Another reviewer described the problems he encountered when using two screw-on filters. There aren't too many primes that I've used that will avoid vignetting when using two filters. Heck, my 10-22 can barely handle one extra-slim. As for darkening the image - well, you're adding two more pieces of glass to a highly-complex lens assembly... just asking for trouble. As for the concern regarding blur at longer focal lengths, I highly recommend the use of a tripod. I noticed the exact same thing - blur and lack of sharpness - at lengths over 100mm. Keep the old rule of thumb in mind - if you're shooting handheld, your shutter speed should be no slower than the inverse of your focal length. A 200mm lens on a 20D (or Rebel XT for that matter), is an effective 320mm - I wouldn't recommend shooting any slower than 1/500 at max zoom with this lens - UNLESS you're using a tripod. When I mounted it firmly, I got great shots with no blur.Keep in mind that you get what you pay for here: the convenience of a wide-angle, normal, and moderate telephoto lens in one piece. If you're shooting professionally, or need absolutely perfect images, then carry the three or four lenses that this would otherwise replace in your bag. But if you want one easy-to-use, satisfactory lens, go for this one. It's a jack-of-all-trades, ace-of-none kinda deal.

5Never ceases to amaze
By mcenut
I have owned this lens for over a year now and it never ceases to amaze me when I see the photos it produces. Over this last year I have come to learn a thing or two about how to use this lens.1) If you are going to shoot indoors, or in low light, with a long focal length (like 200mm) use a tripod or plenty of ambient light. This lens doesn't have a built in image stabilizer so you are going to steady the lens with the tripod or use a real fast shutter speed to minimize your hand jitter.2) Use a smaller aperture. I have found that my best photos come from an aperture of 8.0 thru 16. These apertures aren't great for bokeh (background blur) but they sure do allow you to take razor sharp pictures.Praise.Focal range. With one lens you are able to take nice wide-angle shots (18mm) and with the twist of zoom ring you have a nice telephoto lens (200mm) Definitely a good walk around lens for the day at the botanical gardens, museum or amusement park.Build quality. This lens gives you a nice solid feel in your hands. Give it a shake and it doesn't make a sound. The zoom and focus rings move smoothly without being sloppy. With a lens this well built you would expect it to be heavy. Not so with this lens, it's quite light (which is something you really appreciate after a long day of carrying it around.)Minimal chromatic aberrations. The lens' three hybrid aspherical elements and two low dispersion glass elements correct for almost all lateral and on-axis aberrations making most of your images optically clear.Size. At it's lowest focal length (18mm) the lens is small enough to fit into a mid size top loading camera bag while still attached to the camera body.Complaint?Well yes, I do have one minor complaint about the lens. Auto focus is slow. How slow? Well let's just say you won't want to try and photograph a two year old on the move. I have found that I can keep fast moving objects in better focus by switching to manual.

4Great all use lens
By S. Mingus
I recently purchased this lens for use on my Canon 20D. I was never happy with the lens that came with the camera. I've been very happy with this lens.Pros:- Quality construction. The lens doesn't feel cheap.- Zoom range of this lens is fantastic.- Image quality is great.- Internal focusing makes using filters and hoods a piece of cake- Zoom lock is nice so the zoom ring doesn't turn while stored or carried.- Price. For the money this lens will give you a lot of bang for the buck.Con:- Auto focusing is a bit slow for a moving subject.
