5More than I expected!
By Tina Sanders
I had a vision (which always scares my hubby) to put river rock around 3 walls of my large bathtub, but I wanted it to be in the shape of mountains. I knew he didn't really want the frustration and mess of cutting the hardibacker. I got online and found this tool. Whenever he puts the brakes on one of my visions, I just offer him a new tool to get the job done. We received the tool and 1 hour later the cement board was cut. NO dust, NO problems. He's now asking what other "visions" I have so he can continue using this tool! I'm sure I'll find something!

5Beautiful Watch - Much Nicer Than Pictured
By S. Wolf
Initial impression, having just received the watch:This is another instance when one can truly say that "The picture doesn't do (the subject) justice"This Premier watch is beautiful. While the hands look black in the pictures, when held at an angle, a deep electric blue sheen is visible. The square "cut-outs" in the hands are glow-in-the-dark markers. There are glow-in-the-dark pips at each hour position. The numerals are raised and silver colored (or shiny black)the Seiko logo is silver. Also, the numerals sit on a thinly grooved track. The watch and band are shinier than pictured. The face is about 4cm from stem to other side, and about 7mm thick. The band clasp is pretty much as described, "push-button". I will have to have the band resized (smaller); I'm an adult man of average build. The watch comes in an attractive blue box and is secured around a leather or good vinyl pillow with the Seiko logo on it. Instructions and warranty card are in the box.I purchased the watch through Amazon's partner, WatchZone. I Googled this watch, and of the other online watch/jewelry stores, Amazon (WatchZone) had the best price. BTW, WatchZone delivered the watch within the estimated time.Again, this is a first impression review, but with the quality I've seen so far, I don't think my opinion will change. Also, this is my first Seiko.[Edit] It is now 9/19/2010 and this watch has held up extremely well and has become one of my favorite watches for everyday wear. I own 2 other Seikos now, as well as several other nice watches.

4A good model JVC for the price.
By TexasInstaller
Having installed many sound systems I knew what I was getting. This model JVC is one of the better models for the price. I rated this item as a normal JVC KDLH810 would operate. The main thing to watch for as this unit becomes older is the motorized faceplate. They do tend to stick or they get to the point that they need a little gentle persuasion to open as they increase in age. This usually happens over a long period of time. Therefore, if you are looking for a good radio that plays MP3s and you are not incredibly hard on your system then this would be a great unit for you. If you are extremely rough with your electronics then please don't purchase anything that is motorized unless your hearts desire is to waste your money on destroying things.Hope this review helps!Have a great day!

5perfect fit for 2013 tacoma long bed
By Miles
Just got done installing cover by myself. An extra pair of hands would make it easier. Instructions are easy to follow they also include a separate paper showing how to install keeping side rail system still able to use. Which is what I wanted with a tonneau cover. Cover looks great, tight fit which is adjustable, and very easy to roll open and close. The velcro on side rails, the foam strip in front, and flap on cover at tailgate should make this pretty darn weather resistant. Maybe not 100% rain proof but I will post later on if it doesn`t measure up to what I think it should. As of right now I love it.

5Beautiful opal!!
By Carolyn
This is a gorgeous item!! I selected it as an affordable choice for my "starter" engagement ring and I was NOT disappointed. The opal is so much more beautiful than the picture shows--it looks pink in the picture but it's a beautiful iridescent white opal that sparkles with brilliant orange, green, yellow blue and purple when the light hits it. The art deco setting is divine it has little windows under where the stones sit which is very unique. My only advice is don't rely on a printable ring chart to get your ring size--total fail in that respect. I had to have it resized 2 sizes down because of a dodgy printed ring size chart. Needless to say that was fine in the end and Jewels for Me has excellent customer service with very fast replies. My only criticism of this item, and this may be because I ordered in such a big size--is that the opal was ever so slightly loose in the setting at first so it made a "tinking" sound if you tapped it. When it was resized this was fixed. I do absolutely love this ring I will be sure to take good care of it (opals are very delicate) as I want to wear it for a very long time.

4VERY NICE
By KRASSEL
This is a very nice unit. Compact, yet fairly heavy and very stable while in use. It is primarily meant for use with the Shun knives, but will sharpen any knife, while changing the blade angle to 16 degrees. You cannot use it to sharpen serrated edge knives. It pops apart for cleaning and is fairly easy to use.It will take a little practice to get the "stroke" down pat. You don't want any down pressure and a steady, staight pull thru the machine. I find that two passes usually do the trick. This machine will not restore your knife to that factory edge that Shun is famous for. This machine is meant to get you close. You must hone the knife to get that finished edge. I use a water stone to finish with, but there are other methods. This sharpener is not meant to replace using the steel either. I steel my blades each time I use them. I only resort to the sharpener when the steel will not restore the edge. Sharpening too often is as bad as not often enough.I find this machine is very good at restoring the factory angle and getting the knife very close to sharp. I don't mind the extra few minutes it takes to put that "razor" edge on with a stone. I think it is well worth the price and recommend it.

4Works well
By Doc p30
I've had a set of Shun knives for 3 years now and hadn't had them sharpened. You are supposed to have them sharpened once a year. Shun used to provide sharpening service for free if you mailed your knives too them, but they have discontinued this service. I found this out just as I was getting sick of my knives been dull. The electric sharpener worked well, it took two passes on my 9" chef knife to get it perfectly sharp, it was 90% of the way there after one pass. The sharpener is very loud, but I guess that is to be expected. The unit is fairly compact, which is good since I don't plan on using it more often than once a year. Overall I would say it is a good investment especially since you can't get the knives sharpened for free anymore.

5Excellent
By Alex P.
Compact but heavy enough to be stable when in use. It's design specifically for Shun knives. It will give the blade 16 degree angle which is unique for Shun. Most of my knives are Shun so it's great for me. Occasionally I use it also for knives of other manufacturers. The sharpener will give any blade 16 degree angle but quality blades of other brands able to handle it.

4THX quality on a budget
By designhero
I purchased the VR-9070 nine months ago after finally deciding to upgrade from my ten year old Kenwood KR-V6070. Desire for Digital sound had finally crested enough for me to plunk down the dough even though my old receiver was still in great working order.I looked at a few Sony models before settling on this Kenwood due to its price and how well my 10 year old Kenwood receiver had faired. For the price I was surprised to find a THX certified receiver that matched all my other criteria (Dolby/DTS digital decoder, adequate wattage, subwoofer connection & silver casing). The 9070 sounds great in Digital & Pro Logic settings. I did notice a significant drop off of deep bass compared to my other receiver and I ended up purchasing a JBL sub sooner than I anticipated in order to rectify my bass needs. DVDs sound great in big action scenes, and there is good separation between channels. The menu is rather unintuitive and difficult at first when attempting to change settings. I am rather disappointed there isn't a simple bass/treble feature. Instead, there are several different settings to navigate through in order to tweak your set-up.I had some difficulty getting the Digital audio signal from my DVD player to work at first, but finally figured out that if your DVD player has a digital decoder built in as most do these days, then it has to be turned off for the 9070 to recognize and output a digital signal. The aluminum case is heavy-duty and looks sleek. The flip down cover on the front keeps it looking nice and clean. The blue led display is just the right brightness and looks slick with the silver case. I only wish the connections on the front were also covered. It does run rather hot, especially in Digital mode. I have about two inches clearance above the receiver and have had no problems with overheating even when running it over 4-5 hours. It does exude quite a bit of heat though so good ventilation is needed. The only downfall to the 9070 I have experienced so far is the remote. Its small type is hard to read, impossible in the dark, and has almost no contrast to the color of the remote. The LCD screen might as well not be there, its only function is to display what mode the remote is in, and even then it only stays on for a few seconds. Not to mention that the screen, nor any of the buttons is backlit. The remote feels cheap in comparison, and should have a more user friendly appeal. Luckily my universal remote covers the basic volume functions so once my settings were locked in I rarely have use for the remote.Overall a great receiver for the price.

5I didn't know what sharp was until I got this one
By Manish Laxmikant
I got this knife as a kind of impulsive indulgence, I think it looked cool in its own holder and I had heard good things about Shun knives. However, all those good things are true. It is by far the sharpest knife I've owned, and I've got Henckel Zwillings (not the cheapo kind you get at Target) that have been sharpened to what I USED to think was the sharpest blade around.I'm not dissing the Henckels - if I had not indulged in the Shun I would have been very happy with their performance. But I did get a chance to make some observations on how the Shun shone (no, it's not the same "u" as in "Sun" but it's a borderline pun):- Ripe tomato: The Shun needed no sawing action whatsoever. It cut the initial waxy and soft skin like it was being dipped in water. All my other knives need to break the skin either with pressure, angle, or a teensy bit of sawing motion- Dish brush: While cleaning the blade side with a circular motion in sudsy water (safe for sharp knives) I found bits of the brush bristles in the water. Anything that touched the sharp edge was cut, and that has never happened with the best knife I'd had prior to that. I can normally touch a sharp blade without cutting myself, I am not going to try that with the Shun.- Tortilla stack: I make chips out of 8" flour tortillas by taking a thick stack and chopping it into diamonds or strips, then frying. I've always had to get over the knife and press it in because the multiple layers (20) would slow down the blade. Or I'd work in batches of 6-8. With this knife, I cut the whole 20-thick stack with less pressure than I've used for half that many.- Potato - while hardly a test for a knife (anything cuts potato) the slicing was awesome. After cutting into the potato, it felt like the Shun DREW the potato into itself and the potato came apart like it was already sliced. If you've ever held a potato in your hand and expected to re-position your hand after you're halfway through, DON'T do it with this knife. It will be cutting into your hand before you even realize it.If anything got close to cutting like a lightsaber, this would be it. I kid you not. I wonder how long the sharpness lasts, but I'm enjoying it while it's there.About the Ken Onion design - those used to the generous handle on Henckels might find the handle appearing to be a bit short (I have big hands) but that's until you find the thumb and forefinger position that fits almost over the blade. However, once you hold it, you realize it gives you an added cutting advantage. My only complaint is that the advantage is wasted. You'd have to wait till the blade goes blunt before the handle's design can actually help you cut better.Did I mention I'm extremely happy with it? Happy indulging.

5Just the best
By Alan Fry
I own more than 100 knives made by most well known manufacturers of fine cutlery. I have a masters degree in food science and I worked my way through grad school as a butcher and instructor of meat cutting and meat processing at a major University. This is the finest knife I have ever owned. It is so fun to use I think up things to do with it as entertainment. Take it from an "expert" this knife cannot be beat. Read the other positive reviews. I have given this knife to my brother and my son (both are gourmet cooks) and they love it as well. Spend the money and have a ball. I have no use for a reviewer who holds a knife in a store and writes a negative one star review.

5Shun Knives are Beautiful, Elegant, and the Sharpest around
By Vyshtia
I have a whole set of these blades, so I'm breaking down my review to two parts: Review of the Shun Classic Blades, and the portion as it pertains to this knife in particular.I absolutely love this knife and it's my main work horse knife. The 8" blade is perfect size for everyday uses for chopping, dicing, smashing garlic, etc.. In my daily cooking, I reach for this knife first, and may pair it up with the Paring Knife for smaller tasks. I love the look and feel of this knife, I love that it's so unique and beautiful, I love that it comes with it's own bamboo stand for disply when not in use. I don't hold this knife only by the handle though, I wrap my hand around the handle and base of the blade to give me a very steady hand. Many chefs do this with regular knives and that's where I got the idea from, it allows more control and steadiness (you really feel this when you're using the larger knives). I'm right handed and do rest my left hand on the curve on top of the blade to steady and control rocking motion when dicing. I found that it's very ergonomical and seemed to be designed just for me. I have absolutely no complaints about this knife, I wish they made more like it.Shun knives are beautiful creations period. Since I'm Asian, I love the tradition look and feel of this Japanese knife. I love the beauty of the blade and the dark, polished, Pakkawood handle. The unique "D"-shaped, Wood handles are preferable. The shape fits my hand perfectly, and the wood does not get slippery when wet - providing a very secure hold. The steel is of utmost quality and sharpness. Do not put this blade into any old electric knife sharpener! Electric knife sharpeners are made to put one angle on any blade. These blades come with a 16 degree angle and you don't want to be changing that angle. There are electric knife sharpeners that can sharpen these knives, but you'll have to do some research and find out which ones can be a fit with these knives. I prefer to hone with a sharpening steel and manually sharpen with a stone if necessary (and I don't see it being necessary to touch it to a stone any time soon). The blade is sharp straight off the factory and as Alton Brown says - it's the sharpest straight out of the factory edge as he's ever seen. These knives are more expensive than most, but I think it's definitely worth it. To have the sharpest, most beautiful knife around - it's no contest. If you are on a budget, build your collection slowly. It's been said that there are only 3 knives that are the absolute basics for any kitchen: A 8" Chef's Knife, a Paring Knife, and a Long Serrated blade for cutting bread and larger items. I would add a thin utility knife and a boning knife to that list next. Then I would add those "in-between" sizes as I get more money flow in. =)If you plan on spending any time in the kitchen, good kitchen knives are a definite must. Preparation is the bulk of cooking and when you have good knives, it cuts down on the danger of cutting yourself, it adds pleasure to the work, and it cuts down on prep time. Knives are also a very personal choice and it's best to at least go to a store and try it out for yourself first. Shun Knives are designed by the Japanese, so remember - it's designed for small hands. This makes it fit most women's hands perfectly, but I've heard of guys with larger hands not like it so much and going back to the German knives. So definitely try it out. It's a personal thing, it needs to fit you.Why spend so much money on a knife? Well, if you spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and you almost always have to bust out a knife to prep a meal from scratch - why not use the best? Why spend that time with items that you love and brings you pleasure to use? Many times, it's the small things that brings us the most pleasure in life, and I consider my Shun knives as one of those things. Having something so beautiful and yet so sharp and perfect - it makes my time cooking just that much more enjoyable.

5Love it!!!
By nini890
I bought this set a month ago from amazon.com and I've been using it everyday. I must stay it is the best cookware set I've ever owned. I really enjoy cooking with it, the clean up is VERY EASY, everything comes off right away, no scrubbing is needed! I wish I had bought 10 piece set... I highly recommend it!

5Great quality, great price
By R. Chiu
I am very pleased with this set. It contains just enough pieces to replace some of my existing old pans, and not too many useless pans like in other larger sets. The quality is wonderful - the nonstick is great, cleans off easily even when I don't wash right after cooking, and seems pretty resilient.I love the stainless steel finish - gives these pots a luxurious look. You do haveh to be more careful about not leaving prints on the outside but they are very easily cleaned and dried with a soft cloth. The handles do not get hot, and neither do the lid handles. The pieces themselves are a good weight - not as light as some of my older farberware pots but not as heavy as my cast-iron calphalon pieces.I have not used these in the dishwasher - even if the instructions say dishwasher-safe, nonstick pans never last long being washed in the dishwasher.I got this set with the $25 kitchen and housewares discount, plus another $50 gift certificate. At $50 for the set, it was a steal!

5Good Choice
By TAD2
So far I am very pleased with this cookware. Everything I have tried has cooked evenly and quickly, the cookware is sturdy but not too heavy to handle, the nonstick surface works well, cleanup is very easy. The number of items in this set is just right for someone who does basic cooking for one or two people. The price from this vendor was very good, as well, making this set an excellent value for the money.

5Excellent clad cookware set without outrageous price
By C. Lo
Given the recent reports on the potential health risk from non-stick cookware, my family decided to go stainless. I liked the performance of clad cookware but reckoned that it might not be a wise choice financially to go all out with All-Clad before I have my own cooking show. The candidates came down to 3 product lines, Anolon Advanced Clad, J.A. Henckels International Classic Clad and Cuisinart Multiclad Pro. The best price I could find for them were all under $200 for 7 pieces, with Anolon having 10 pieces. Being all constructed in full clad, they seem to differ mostly in the handle design before I can do a performance comparison.Henckels has a huge and unconventional handle. My first impression was it might not fit in my kitchen well. However, it was not until recently that I tried one at a local store. The pan balances well and has one of the most comfortable handles that I ever put my hands on. However, my family needs a larger stock pot and the included 6-quart one doesn't really serve our need.Anolon has a silicon rubber handle. It's said to withstand the high heat in the oven. However, due to aesthetic preference and concerns about putting synthetic materials in high heat along with food, we decided to go with the Cuisinart set. In the meantime, we separately bought an Anolon Advanced Clad 12" stir fry pan.The Cuisinart set is a very well made traditional tri-ply cookware with all metal handles. The built differences between Cuisinart and All-Clad is so insignificant to me that it makes the several-hundred-dollar saving and having a set of quality stainless steel cookware set truly a joy. The finish of the Cuisinart pans was superior to the Anolon stir fry pan. However, Anolon's silicon rubber handle obviously is more functional and practical than metal handles since it never becomes slippery or hot in your day-to-day use. I guess this would come down to a personal preference. The pans both brown well and distribute heat quickly and evenly. The cleaning is also a breeze as long as you heat the pans briefly before cooking. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

4Dubious
By FilmFoodie
The pan sizes are great for the everyday meals that I usually cook, although most folks will need to add a 10-12 inch saute pan. The rims are great for pouring and the handles actually stay cool stove top. Sticking and clean up have not been a problem. I would say that the pans create too little fond. The skillet is also a little slow to regain temperature after adding thicker cuts of meat. The main concern is an issue with the stainless steel interiors. There are specs of dull metal (exposed aluminum?) developing on the interior of the pots except the skillet. One sauce pan actually has a finger sized spot of exposed aluminum near the lip that I didn't see when I first examined them. The interiors of the pots except the skillet, easily discolor from heat but recuperate a little after consecutive uses. I called Cuisinart about the exposed aluminum. The rep had a scripted answer for my concern so it seems this may be a common problem. The expense of sending the pots to them for repair or replacement and being without pots for that time prohibits any warranty fulfillment. I'm leery about the cooking surfaces of pots and pans so I hope the problem doesn't get worse and food begins to stick or worse the aluminum begins to break down and leech into the food. Also, the exterior that is not "brushed" is easily marred and scratched which might matter to someone interested in exhibiting them. Overall, these are "okay" for the money. Especially since one All-Clad piece can cost as much as I paid for this set.At under $200 the price was good, but for someone from my socio-economic background it's still a lot to spend on pots and pans. I'd rather not spend that much on fallible materials.02/23/2010 - Two years later, still going strong. I still can't make an omelet in the fry pan, but an eco-pan non stick should do the trick there. There's no further damage than initially discovered. I'd say these were definitely worth the money. No dents or dings, no permanent burnt on food. Don't know why Cooks Illustrated hasn't included them in testing. I think some of my original thoughts were buyers remorse because I'm very happy with this set now.09/15/2010 - Still going strong. Love 'em more than ever.

5Works great
By Stricksan
I've been using this stuff almost daily since I got married two and a half years ago. We couldn't bear to ask our friends and family to buy us overpriced cookware, but we wanted high performance, so we registered for this instead. No regrets. Though you'll need more pans than this eventually, I have zero complaints for this as a starter set.

4Great board for all but really critical waves
By Mr. Marcus J. Bockman
I have ridden this board in a wide variety of conditions--reef, beachbreaks, and shorebreak (The Newport Beach Wedge on Balboa Peninsula, to be exact). It is NOT a board for everyone, you need strong arms to muscle it in and out of bottom turns and cutbacks. It takes awhile to get used to doing el rollos on a 24"+ wide board, but it is possible. I would compare it to a single fin or longboard in the barrel: you can definitely get pitted properly, but once you pick a line, you more or less have to hold it. I bought it after wrecking my foot, and paddled it with one flipper. Now I use it with both flippers, and it is my primary board. It is great in small surf, and can be scooped into large barrels. Try it out, see what you think, but remember, it will take awhile to adjust to using a much larger and heavier board. The bottom feels like some sort of epoxy or thick plastic, and is extremely durable. I el rollo'd onto a shortboard someone bailed in the impact zone, drove two skeg-holes into the bottom of my board (luckily not my stomach) and the Bullyboard I have still works fine. The one other major downside, besides manueverability in technical barrels: the board is HUGE, and is a pain to carry. Any spot that requires a long walk to get to is going to be taxing with this board; the board is so wide that even with very long arms, I cannot completely wrap my hand around the rail of the board when carrying it with one arm.
