Beautiful, worth every penny, but a bit of a warning about building it.

If you've bought a lot of self-assembled furniture in the past, you are probably well prepared with some kind of power driver such as a drill with screwdriver bits. That will not help you with this item unless you also have either a Dremel tool or a hack saw.The tools required to drive the screws and bolts in this thing are two sizes of hex key wrenches. That right, they're screws that require hex key wrenches, which are provided in the package in L-shaped form. Hand driving every screw with these little hex keys they give you is of course a major pain in the butt--as well as fingers. I solved my immediate problem by using my Dremel tool to cut the elbows off the wrenches giving me straight hex key bits that I could insert in my drill. I could have used a hack saw, but that wouldn't be as much fun.I seem to remember that I also had to use a wrench for some bolts, but I have a socket wrench for that, though as a result of this I also now have a 3/8th inch socket shank for my drill, along with socket heads of various sizes and socket hex key heads--so the next time I can use my drill for any kind of bolt.The drawers are a bit of a pain to get exactly right, and the instructions are no help in this regard.Hanging the doors was so easy a child could do it. No adjusting whatsoever; they've done all the work for you. And installing the magnets that hold the doors closed is easy enough for anyone.My overall advice is, be careful while assembling this because the instructions are only very sparsely helpful, particularly when assembling the drawers. And note that the granite top is genuine granite and therefore really heavy--so you should have one more person to help you unpack it and put it in place no matter how strong you think you are.BOTTOM LINE: Despite being a bit frustrating to build, it's a beautifully made piece of furniture and sure to last for many years. Except for putting the drawers together so that they sit perfectly--which wasn't too horrible--it wasn't a particularly difficult project.We especially like this item because we are not homeowners--we rent--and this allows us to upgrade the kitchen a bit and take it with us to wherever we happen to move next. Even if we owned our home, this would be a nice item to have in the kitchen.

The Crown PZM-185 Pressure Zone Microphone is a microphone designed for general-purpose use. Ideal for applications such as conferences, group discussions, interviews, broadcast, home video production, lectures, and recordings. The mic can be placed on a large surface such as a table, floor, wall, or lectern. The PZM-185 is powered either by an internal AAA 1.5V battery or 12 48V phantom power. The boundary paddle can be detached so the mic will fit in your pocket. Attached to the mic is an 8-foot 2.438-m cable leading to a tubular power module. The microphones low profile design reduces mic fright and minimizes clutter. It is nearly invisible on camera. The PZM-185 minimizes pickup of vibration and handling noise. Its electret condenser capsule provides a wide, smooth frequency response from 50 Hz to 16 kHz. The mics hemispherical polar pattern allows clear pickup of everyone surrounding the microphone. The PZM-185 is protected against static and RFI. The output is balanced, low impedance, which allows long cable runs without hum pickup or high-frequency loss. Like other Pressure Zone Microphones, the PZM-185 uses a miniature mic capsule mounted very near a sound-reflecting plate or boundary in the Pressure Zone. In this zone, direct sound from the sound source combines in phase at all frequencies with reflected sound off the boundary. Excellent PZM (Pressure Zone Microphone)!

Specialized! Great for purchasers who understand this type of microphone. This type of microphone must be placed on a flat, hard surface for best results. A table, a sheet of suspended plexiglass, a desktop are examples of flat, hard surfaces. This type of microphone picks up all sound that reaches the boundary -- or surface -- on which the microphone rests. The plastic paddle features two (2), tiny and fragile "posts." You can either attach the paddle or remove it using these posts, which squeeze and insert into holes on the bottom of the microphone casing. The paddle isn't required if you want to mount the microphone on some other type of flat surface. I am a distance learning audio technician who works with far more expensive ceiling-mounted Tandberg "AudioScience" microphones (around $1,500). Believe it or not, this Crown PZM-185 is almost as good when mounted on suspended plexiglass! They call this a "PZM" or "pressure zone microphone." The pickup pattern is shaped like a half-sphere. So, if you put it on a table, then everything above the table will be heard to a distance of at least nine (9) feet. This model uses either batteries or, if you plug it into a mixer, you can use the mixer's "phantom" power to power the microphone. Amazing device for the money. Crown has better, more expensive models too. As I understand it, Crown's PZM line of microphones is now being marketed by AKG... a Harman company.

Answering door from any phone is a real convenience

This item functions very well and requires minimal knowledge to install.When installed, all the phones ring with a distinctive ring when the doorbell button is pushed on the outside speaker box. You can also continue to have the regular door bell ring as well.Pick up any phone and talk directly the person at the door. Great for screening visitors before opening the door, or allowing parcel delivery people to leave packages without rushing to answer the door. I often work late and wake late, so now I don't have to miss a delivery because I'm not dressed to answer the door. Works with cordless phones too so you don't miss a door knock while in the back yard.Especially useful if you don't appreciate unannounced callers such as door to door salesmen and other solicitors interrupting your life. Simple tell them you can't come to the door and most will be on their way.The only reason I don't give this five stars is that there is a noticeable, but not necessarily loud, humm in the audio. This is heard by both the caller and yourself. The manufacturer acknowledges this happens. I feel the humm makes the system sound cheap and low quality when it really does function quite well. Hopefully the manufacturer will find ways to filter the hum out in future models.

Great Thermostat, would like if screen was bigger, but with this T-stat you can use remote sensors for both indoor heat/cool setting and also read the outdoor temp with additional sensors. Very easy to install T-stat and sensors.

Aube Programmable Digital Thermostat TH140-28-01

For three years we have had two of these Aube 7-day units controlling two zones of radiant heat from an oil-fired boiler. We have been very happy with their trouble-free operation. I later purchased another brand that was on sale but found it was not as convenient as the two Aube units I was using. I then decided to purchase a third Aube TH140-28-01 thermostat, and I again find it the easiest to program and use, and again it is a thermostat that evenly controls the room temperature. This new Aube unit is working adjacent to another radiant zone's manual thermostat and is connected to an LPG 3-sided glassed fireplace. We keep the radiant zone at 67F. The digital thermostat comes on at 6 AM abd warms the open living area and kitchen zone to 72F and maintains that temperature until evening when the digital drops back to 64F, which then allows the radiant portion to keep the floors warmed at 67F through the night. My result has seen a true cost savings of more than $200 half way through our cold Maine heating season. We are now the most comfortable we have been in the past four years. I truly recommend this Aube thermostat. It is easy to program and install.... and it looks nice on the wall. Also, if I over-ride the program momentarily, I leave the door cover open as a reminder that I need to return it to its programmed control.

Purchased this Aube by Honeywell CT241-01/U Universal Low Volt Thermostat Phone Controller to work with a TH140-28-01-B/U Hydronic Heating 7-Day Programmable Thermostat.I am using it to control a millivolt operated stand alone gas stove that provides backup heat to my home when I travel.The Gas stove keeps the house at 40 degrees so that the house does not freeze up. Make a call home 3 hours before arriving home, our house is 65 when we arrive.This unit requires an additional 12 volt dc power supply when used with the TH 140 T stat. The th140 does not supply it's own power and this unit is only a sophisticated switch. I had an old cube type 12 volt dc power supply from a long dead portable phone that I used. You can probably find what you need at goodwill.There is different Phone controller that is recommended if you only want to control a thermostat. It provides the 12v output for the TH140 thermostat.However, I bought this one so that I have the option of controlling my watering systems and other electrically controlled devices remotely if I desired.This phone controller has 4 sets of normally open spst dry contacts. The contacts are rated at 1/2hp at 120 volts ac. See the spec sheet or contact the manufacturer for other ratings. Each can be toggled on or off during your phone call home.You can also check the status of each without affecting the output while on the phone to the controller.It does work with an answering machine. It is password protected.These are actual relay contacts so there is no leakage voltage across them unlike triacs. You could use it to control a suitable power relay to turn off or on practically anything thatis electrically powered. Consult an electrician.There is a switch on the back that allows you to use it with an answering machine if you so set it. Make your selection before you mount the unit. I had to plug the answering machine directly into our unit to make it work in my situation. We have very low voltage on our phone lines here, as we are in a remote area. It is not unusual for us to have problems with phone machines, modems etc. When the phone controller was in parallel with the answering machine/cordless phone base, the phone controller would pick up, but the line would continue to ring until the answering machine picked up.The phone system did not sense the Phone Controller picking up and continued to ring the line.That did not work. Moving the answering machine so that it plugged into the provided jack on the Ct241 solved the problem.Relocating the wireless phone base was a small price to pay for coming home to warm house after being away for days or weeks.This unit works as advertised. Tested it today when returning from a trip. It was nice to walk into a warm house.I found it easy to install but being a former industrial electrician I would. The instructions do include some simple drawing, but do not mention the need for power relays on heavy loads such as a water heater. I have no comment on this.I called the manufacturer before purchasing it for my project, I recommend you do the same. They were very helpful. I would recommend a phone line surge protector be installed with this unit.Might save you replacing it after a lightening storm.The results were well worth the time spent installing it.

Performs as promised

Purchased unit to turn the heat on in our cottage in northern Wisconsin as we are driving up there. The unit works as promised. However there should be some instructions with the unit to give you an idea how to hook it up. There are none. Our existing thermostat is a simple 2 wire unit and so I connected 2 new wires to the existing connections and ran the wires to the ct241. It sounds simple and it is. I just wish they would include that in the instructions.The other observation I have is that you need to turn the ct241 off when you get there and then use your regular thermostat. Otherwise your heater will continue to run and will NOT turn off.
