5NO PROMISES - JUST TOP PERFORMANCE
By Gail Cooke
Don't know about you but I've become very leery of all the skin care products that promise to remove lines, zap age spots, and rejuvenate complexions (wonder exactly what that means). After using some Shiseido products in the past and in need of a moisturizer, I tried this cream. It's especially nice to use the same product in the morning and the evening. What is the difference between a day cream and a night cream?

It absorbs nicely in the morning so there's no need to wait to apply makeup.

There were no promises on the label - this is a cream that simply performs.

5A Great Product from Shiseido
By CJ
This is a superb cream that effectively hydrates the skin without any greasy or sticky feeling. I use it both morning and night (I use a sunscreen on top of it during the day). I just love how it feels weightless but at the same time smoothes and hydrates my dry skin so well. Highly recommended!

5So far, so good!
By Timothy Miller
I wanted a sturdy machine that uses ink affordably, feeds paper accurately and reliably, and not too slow. I didn't need color. This machine fit the bill.I haven't owned it long, so I don't know about reliability. Paper handling is excellent. Printing is fast and looks very good -- dark and precise. Ink costs will be much lower than an inkjet. It seems carefully designed and more solidly made than most inkjets. It's Macintosh-friendly (I guess Brother makes a point of being friendly to Macintosh and Linux.) Scanning, faxing, printing all work seamlessly with OS X.It's got a flatbed scanner for irregular originals, and a sheet feeder for scanning, faxing or copying multiple pages. The sheet feeder seems to work very well. This is really an incredible deal, considering the low price. This is a perfect machine for the user who has office work in mind, more than printing photos and other "home user" needs.Follow-up, six months later: This machine has worked better than I could have hoped. Paper feed is very reliable, print quality is excellent, the fax function is quite reliable, and the cost of ink per page is remarkably cheap. I haven't experience a single problem with it.Another follow-up. Now, it's October of 2011. I've replaced the drum twice -- affordable, and the toner cartridge many times -- cheap compared to ink for ink-jets. It still works reliably, and just as well as ever.

5Best !!!!
By Han38some
Here is my review for the sister model of MFC7420 (7820N), the only difference in 7820N is better scan resolution & Networking capabilities, the rest is the same, so my review should apply to MFC 7420 as well.WoW ! This must be the best MFC out there. I have owned several canon, hp, lexmark MFC, photo printers, fax machines etc. This machine is it. All you need is this MFC & a separate photo printer. you are all set.1. This is a laser MFC - scan(color), copy, fax, print2. very fast for home/small office use3. very compact - very space saving4. Network ready - other computers on network can use all functions of this.5. unlimited tech support. not just 1-year like HP/canon.6. Machine feels sold & feels it will last long7. All fax, copy, scan can be operated either from machine buttons or pc software interface.8. installation was breeze9. software is top notch. very intuitive10. tested print, copy, scan & fax - AWESOME AWESOME.11. they don't outsource cust support to india12. only regrets: no duplex, no separate output tray, but from a compact machine like this, you can't expect output tray.13. This MFC is clearly the winner. nothing else.14. $50 cartride takes you upto 2,500 pages. not bad15. Auto feeder works flawlessly16. buy from local office depot store when they give $40 gift card with it.17. you can connect any answering machine, so all you need is one line for phone callss & fax. this machine shows whether it is a phone call or fax. can use distinctive ring too.18. backlit LCD menu19. if you network with this printer, you don't need to buy USB cable20. 32mb memory for printing, huge memory for fax.21. super fast fax speed22. Excellent looks.23. DEDICATED MAC SUPPORT, although i only used it for Windows.why didn't i know about Brother earlier ?

5Love this machine
By Christopher Altermatt
My wife and I love this machine. I have had it for over six months and have had no problem with it. I had to replace the original toner cartridge after only six months of use, but they always give you less toner in the "starter" cartridge than in the replacements. It prints faster than the old dedicated laser printer I had and the copier, scanner, fax functions work flawlessly. I also found it relatively easy to set-up with an external answering machine so that I can always have the fax function standing by on the same line as my home phone. Unlike others, I had no trouble with the included software.

5Agreed - awesome!
By J. Barrett
I almost never write a review, but the forest of multi-functions is so thick and I am so impressed by my Brother DCP-7020 that I figure I ought to share my personal view of this tremendous small office/home-office machine.I spent weeks researching and testing multi-functions, going back and forth among Brother, HP, Sharp, Xerox, Canon, and others. What a nightmare, sorting out and comparing all the rival features! My own needs were straight-forward: truly excellent, professional-looking B&W laser printing and copying capability; reliable paper-path routing with few or no jams; able to handle periodic high volume and otherwise steady daily use; large paper tray capacity; reliable Auto Document Feeder; handy and roomy output tray; acceptable color as well as B&W scanning; and reasonably priced laser supplies that have a reasonably high volume capacity. While I had no need for fax or networking, I might have taken either or both if the quality of the more important features I sought warranted the extra price. I also was hoping for a stand-alone copying capability, just to give me more flexibility in office machinery since I also have a Brother HL-5150DLT (which is a tremendous stand-alone printer, by the way!)Several times I almost decided on the Sharp AL-1641CS or its equivalent at Canon and Xerox. My initial misgivings about the latest Brother multifunction machines came down to three things: I was concerned about a few reports of modest paper curling; I was nervous about the paper output slot which seemed at first glance kind of puny and inconveniently located at the inside front, rather than outside to the side, of the machine; and the Brother multi-function machines somehow didn't look to me quite as robust or strong as some of their competitors, at least as they sat on the store shelf.Repeated testing in multiple stores convinced me that the Brother DCP-7020 was the most likely to meet my needs at an initial price (and also a lower laser cartridge supplies price) so substantially less than the Sharp or equivalents that I decided to 'chance' it, as I thought. It turned out far, far better than I had hoped. This is a GREAT workhorse machine that takes up substantially less work space and yet turns out excellent laser printing and/or copying with sharp, professional-looking text. Reliable, smooth paper handling with no paper jams to speak of (other than one deliberately caused for testing, which was very easily cleared). Superior copying capability (stand-alone or attached to a computer.) And, though not my top priority, very good scanning as well, supported by excellent, intuitive software. The earlier review and product descriptions you can read at Amazon.com are accurate. This machine is awesome; the best buy for the money you will find, unless you need faxing capability or color printing in your multi-function. As for my original misgivings, here's my experience:(1) Paper curling. Not a problem! The paper curling reports are true but greatly exaggerated. Very, very minor curling occurs (probably due to the extreme heat needed for any laser printing), but the paper flattens quickly as it cools and in a minute or so you won't even know it had a slight curl as it emerged from the machine.(2) Output tray. Not a problem! True, the output slot at the front of the machine looks a little inconvenient or insubstantial, but that turns out to be a mirage, probably because we are so accustomed to expecting to see a bulky exterior separate output tray. The Brother DCP-7020 output tray actually is an innovation. It works perfectly and can hold up to 100 pages, no problem. Lift the lid below the copier and you will see you have access to the entire output tray in all its glory.(3) The wrong-est I was in my initial misgivings was in thinking that visually the Brother DCP-7020 looked somehow more fragile, or less robust, than the Sharp or similar competitors. It may look that way, but in reality it is every bit as much a workhorse machine as its equivalent competitors. The DCP-7020 is a strong, muscular, and reliable machine. Just a much smaller footprint and at half the price.Although not my own top priority, I've also been very pleasantly surprised at how good the scanning function is. A couple of reviewers here and there on the web grumble about this, but I found the Brother DCP-7020 scanning function and quality does at least well with color photos as any other $200-$400 scanner I've used, and far better than most of them. The text recognition software is far superior to what most well known competing brands use. And the scanner control panel is very intuitive with good defaults and ample opportunity to easily customize. I've wound up putting my 1 year old $400 HP scanner in the attic.)I unhesitatingly recommend the Brother DCP-7020. It is everything I wanted in a B&W laser printer/copier/scanner -- and more! -- at half the price of the competition.Afterword about Brother support: For those concerned about tech support, there is good, and bad, and more good news -- but REALLY good news if you pay attention to what I have to say here.1. Good news: Brother's toll-free number you can call in an emergency usually leads you to a live English-speaking person who isn't in India or Sri-Lanka or some other Exploited-Labor-of-the-Month hell hole.2. Bad news: Like the infamous Indian "tech support" people we all know and loath, you probably will get an American who is mostly clueless other than they've been trained to read the manuals. If you haven't read the manual yourself, they can be a kind of "aural" manual and walk you through a few quick fixes. If you know the manual and those fixes haven't worked, go to the next point below.3. More good news: If you have time to e-mail or call Brother support and ask specifically for a truly knowledgeable tech person to contact you, in a day or at most two you will wind up being called by a REAL expert who will take the time to answer all of your questions patiently and in depth. These people know what they're doing. They're honest and knowledgeable. They are the way tech support used to be, once upon a time.

5The Macintosh view:
By Gene Leynes
Overall, I'm amazed with this printer. I've only used it for a few weeks, but I've already printed a few hundred pages in various sized jobs, and installed it on multiple machines across platforms. The Good:-Very fast startup-Very fast printing-The printing is very detailed, even for a laser printer.-Good OCR (optical character recognition) software. I tested this on small grey text from the back of a bank statement.-Very little page curling-Once connected to a computer, shared printing is a snap.-The output area, embedded in the machine itself, is very sturdyThe Bad:-No automatic duplexing-Windows oriented documentation-Somewhat loud-The scanning is slow, although typical with my experience.-Limited use if connected directly to a network router / airport express (i.e. no scanner)-Not appropriate for high volume printing. The volume specifications are on the Brother website, but they don't mention that the output area is only an inch or so tall.More Details:As a Macintosh user, I thought that the software was horrible. It installs a bunch of weird files and folders in your applications folder. I spent a ton of time trying to install the printer. However, if you follow the advice below it should only take you about 5-10 minutes. As far as I can tell, the drivers from the Brother website work just as well in place of the software on the CD. The printer drivers and the scanner drivers are separate, and the scanner driver is labeled "TWAIN" driver. Unfortunately, the OCR software is only on the CD.Photo scanning - I had good luck with one photo, and bad luck with the other. I suspect that you could tune the settings better if you knew what you were doing, since there are many options. The documentation is totally wrong in places, even in the short "quick setup" guide. I called tech support and got through to a person quickly. They were somewhat brief and surly, but they were US based (if that's important to you).FYI: The Brother website is useful for research. It's accurate and detailed, and good for side-by-side comparisons. Unfortunately, limit of only comparing four printers at a time forced me to copy the results to Excel.I wrote this detailed, independent review because I had a hard time believing the other reviews when I was making my decision (especially since the some reviewers hadn't posted many other reviews). I figured that high quality laser performance was impossible at this price, but I have to confess the good reviews are highly accurate.EDIT: It's been more than years now, and I am still totally happy with this machine. Works perfectly for my needs.I noticed a negative review by Paul Robinson. His review is very well written and accurate, but the issues he raises just didn't matter to me. For example book photocopying is good enough for my needs (and I won't pay for Kinkos). I'm sure there are better all-in-one laser printers, but I couldn't find one two years ago for about $200, and I'm glad I don't have to look again. One more thing, if you're sharing through a mac, download Bonjour printer wizard for windows, and your windows machine will be able to easily print to the mac when it's shared and turned on.

4A Workhorse. But, toner level sensor is defective.
By Ted Kaehler
I agree with the review above by "On The Level". My wife has copied school papers on this machine continuously since we got it. It appears to be tough as nails. We bought two full-sized toner cartridges in addition to the starter cartridge. Each of them reported low toner and stopped copying with about half the toner still left! For a while, I switched cartridges to fool the machine, but even that did not work. The ink cartridge has two small circular windows in the sides. The machine shines a light through the cartridge to see how much toner is left. The holes are not at the bottom of the cartridge! The light can get through when lots of toner is left.I put a piece of black tape over the hole in side of the carrier for the cartridge. This keeps the sensor light from entering the cartridge, and makes the machine think there is plenty of toner. Works like a charm. With this fix, I am very happy with the machine.

4Good printer but a couple of issues you need to know about
By A. Tubesing
I have been using this printer heavily for about three months. We are both teachers so we use it a lot to print mostly text documents. We use it on a network using the ethernet connection, and do not use the USB connection.Install/instructions:The installation of this printer will be easy if you're used to adding network printers. I was able to assign it an IP address easily and get it working without even looking at the instructions. The printer has a web page where you can adjust settings and so on, very easy to use. HOWEVER, to install the scanning functions was a totally different matter. That required the instruction book, which refers you to the electronic manual if you're doing a network install. The instructions are incomplete and leave out some XP settings you need to adjust in order to use it. I had to call tech support to resolve the issue, but it was relatively quick and painless. They really need to make the instructions for this process more complete.Print quality:Print quality is excellent. The one problem, one that you've probably heard about, is that it curls the output paper. For small jobs this doesn't tend to create issues other than the annoyance of your paper curling up at the ends. When printing ten pages or more though, they tend to fold over while outputting, thus jamming up the output tray and/or spilling papers on the floor. Sometimes this is just annoying, and sometimes it creates an internal paper jam. This gets to be a hassle when printing 30 copies of a 5-page test and the pages get all scrambled by the jam. This effect is always there, though certain kinds of paper seem to curl more than others.Scanning:There's a really frustrating problem with the scanner feature. It auto-detects the edge of your paper such that you can not scan a larger area than the paper occupies on the glass. At first it seems like that wouldn't be a problem, however the software forces a 1/8" blank margin around the image, which cuts off anything close to the edge of the paper. So if you have documents or photographs with important stuff close to the edge of the original, it will be lost and there's no way to compensate. You can't stretch the scan area, move the paper on the glass or anything else I've tried. You just have to give in to losing an eighth inch around the edges. Argh!Toner:On my first toner cartridge I got 2215 pages. Exactly 2215, and no more. Why does that matter? Because with most printers, when the toner gets low you can pull it out, rotate it a few times, put it back in and keep printing as long as you can tolerate the results. Not with this printer. Once it senses that the toner is low, it will never print another page from that cartridge. It displays a "toner low" message and refuses to print. This is especiallly irritating for a couple reasons. First, the pages still look perfect so I know there's more toner in there and I'd like to use it until the pages look bad. Second, if it's not a convenient time to run out of toner and you don't have the replacement standing by, you're not going to print a single page. You get NO warning, the printer just quits. This is unacceptable design in my opinion. When the pages start to look bad, I know the toner's low. I should be able to keep printing as long as I can tolerate the results. Unacceptable.[update 2/20/08: On later toner I have managed to remove the cartridge, rotate it to redistribute the toner inside, then put it back in the printer for a few more pages. Inevitably it does detect that toner is low and refuses to print until you repeat the process, but at least you can finish the print job without being stranded. This really is an unacceptable 'feature'. A warning that toner is low might be nice but refusing to print when the pages still look fine is just bullying us to waste money, and I resent that emphatically.]Telephone Answering Devcice (TAD):This multifunction printer will allow you to connect to a telephone answering machine. It automatically detects if an unanswered call is a fax or voice call. It will route the call accordingly, either to the fax or to the TAD. The one thing about this that they bury in the fine print is that in order for this to work the TAD has to be plugged into the jack on the printer itself, thus meaning the printer and answering machine must be located together. I find this to be a significant drawback because I would rather have the TAD in the kitchen where we've always kept it. Now instead we have to keep it way back in my office wiht the printer where we don't spend a lot of time, and especially not convenient when returning home to check for messages. That's my roundup of the important issues you might not know by reading the specs. Other than these I am very happy with the printer and would reccommend it as long as you can live with these few shortcomings.UPDATE:After using this printer for 6 months, the curling problem has gotten worse. The printer jams much more easily in the output tray than it did originally. Also the pickup mechanism often jams when pulling fresh paper from the tray. It is working OK, but it seems that it's not going to last too much longer without crippling problems.3-year Update:I am now quite impressed by this printer. After three years of pretty heavy use this guy is still doing great. It has lasted much longer than I expected for a 'cheapo' consumer grade laser printer. The paper curling is still a hassle, but the low toner warning problem has improved somewhat. It now lets me remove the cartridge, shake it around and re-insert for more printing, however it will only do a couple pages at a time before it senses the low toner and stops again, forcing me to repeat the process--but at least I can work at it and get my job printed instead of being stranded. It tried an office-depot brand cartridge last time which was total crap, it made streaks and uneven print density on anything that wasn't text. Just buck up and get the real Brother toner, the 'equivalent replacements' are no such thing.

5No regrets choosing Brother over HP for multifunction!
By Lorena
After months and months of market research and reading endless reviews of Brother multifunction machines, I am so glad I chose the Brother 7820N as my business machine. All my friends and associates said to stick to HP for laser, but I am telling you... HP should stick to 1 function laser printing and ultrasound machines as Brother is the KING of multi-functions!!!!!I have had this machine since the beginning of March and even with fairly heavy daily use, I have not had one single complaint. The unit is small, but performs better than most of the Canon and HP monstrocities that I have worked with in offices. I guess this proves that bigger isn't better.I run an outsource admin and bookkeeping company and this machine keeps up just fine. The set-up was easy and the functions are user-friendly. Faxes are clear, photocopies are fast and printing is crisp. The unit seems to take a lot of the heavier card stock and labels through the manual feed just dandy - it hasn't choked yet! I have not had to clear any paper jams so the only time I've been into the front panel was to load the start-up toner, which by the way I have yet to replace!!!!I highly recommend this machine. I've worked with printers, scanners, copiers and faxes for 16 years and I can tell you... when it comes to multi-function - Brother knows what they're doing. Do yourself a favor and buy one.Oh yeah... the best part - I already received my $50.00 rebate from Brother!!!!

3OS X: had setup problems, fixed in later releases. Has held up very well.
By John Faughnan
Update 6/30/06: The rebate did finally show up, but it took a month longer than promised! The printer still works and I've applied patches that probably fix the setup bug below. Brother's web site and patch software distribution is very hard to figure out, but this really has been a great purchase over time. I regularly fax from it, copy from it, scan from it, and even print from it. My wife, who was quite skeptical about the value of this complex beast (she's usually right to be skeptical) is a huge fan.An OS X update broke the abiity to send a scan to OS X. I didn't fuss with this as it ended up being just as easy for me to launch the scan from OS X. I'm not sure this works that well with XP either -- today's firewalls make this hard.I gave this a 3 star rating originally, but now I'd say 5 stars.-------- Original review ----------------------I have both XP and OS X Tiger (10.4.2) machines on my home LAN. I installed the brother to both machines. In both cases I downloaded the very latest software patches from Brother's site. The XP install went rather well, but I realized too late the downloaded drivers didn't include the OCR shttp://g-images.amazon.com/images/G/01/x-locale/communities/reviews/preview-your-review.gifoftware. Annoying. I'd recommend doing the CD install first then downloading and updating from the downloads. The OS X install was another story. Actually, this is pretty outrageous. Bonjour (was Rendezvous) install didn't work at all. The printer didn't appear in my network display. It took about a half hour of late night hacking and googling and amazon review reading to figure out that Brother misconfigured the printer. They didn't define something called a 'mDNS' name. Without this name Bonjour/Rendezvous doesn't work. How do you define this? Well, to make a long story short, dig through the CD and find the help file called ALL_EngNet.pdf. Chapter 7 describes the browser interface. Use your browser and the IP address of the brother to get the web UI. You need the admin un of 'admin' and pw of 'access'. (This is publicly downloadable, not secret, you can chang pw.) Then from the home page click Network Configuration then click on configuremDNS, then name the machine (BrotherMFC works). Now you can add it as a printer. It's astounding that Brother doesn't even mention this on their web site help files. It's a pretty darned serious bug.I'll add the rest of my experience later. The Mac is definitely a poor cousin for this device. It does appear, however, that (contrary to the Brother specs) it is possible to fax to a Mac.Update: I've definitely warmed to this device. I've an evolving review with comments on both XP and OS X experiences in my blog. Amazon does not permit URL inclusion in reviews, but for more information go to Google's blog search and search Gordon and 7820N.The XP support is better than the Mac support, but a geek armed with my review will have no trouble getting this machine working well with OS X -- including push button scanning directly to disk! (I suspect there may be some nasty security implications here ...) It's not, however, a device for the average user. It really needs a geek to install and configure it.

4FR Bosch 53514-RT 14.4 Volt Planer
By Kevin Knowles
No more than I use this and the low price I paid it works great. If I used it more I would prefer electric.

5Like new..works better than I thought it would
By C. Malone
I was in the market for a power planer and had looked at cheaper options on Harbor Freight when I found this on Amazon. I was a little unsure being 14.4 volts if it would have enough power but it seems to work great. I figure for an extra $40 over the cost of a generic planer I get a bosch and a 14.4 volt battery system to add a drill or jigsaw to later.

4good price for a cordless planer
By Charles Robb
Into the body of the tool was branded RECON, about 1/2" in length. Says a lot about what Bosch thinks it will hear from customers about this reconditioned tool. The tool had minor scratch indicating that it had actually been used/tested. I removed the blade and examined it on both sides (the blade is reversible) and had been replaced as part of the reconditioning process. I adjusted the blades and plates and made sure everything was square. I looked at the tool from different directions and it didn't look square. After closer inspection, it became apparent that it wasn't the cutting edge/guide, it was the plastic casing of the tool that wasn't aligned. The stop bracket that came with the tool is too inaccurate to be useful and should be discarded. Still, if you aren't bothered about the casing not being square with the blade and have use for a cordless planer, you can't beat this price, though with only one battery, you might want to plan on just throwing the tool away when the battery wears out.

5serious tool for finding distances
By originalevcrawfish
ok, so you're reading my review, you've been up till the wee hours of the morning weighing options on this one on that one. this one has this option, that one has that option. it's nuts, i did it. i finally narrowed it down to this bushnell and the leopold. the reviews in this price range are all about the same. both are great products. the final deciding factor for me was number of gadgets and how expensive is it going to be down the road. let's face it, i HATE batteries, i hate em. i'm so sick of everything with the batteries and every time you get ready to use something the freakin battery is dead. so you can either buy all the gear to charge the batteries or get new ones. well i have enough in my life to keep up with so i chose in this instance like most others, simplicity. KISS priciple, keep it simple stupid. the bushnell uses a 9 volt battery, which are everywhere and they are cheap. the leopold uses the flat watch type batteries, and good luck finding them. every convenience store in america has 9 volt batteries, grocery stores, pharmacies, etc. so that was a huge factor for me.the next big piece is that the leopold requires that you have to learn it, it's got a plethera of settings. so if you like pushing the buttons and playing with gadgets when you should be shooting the rabbit, or hitting the golf ball, then be my guest. the bushnell is point and click. it's got 3 settings and that is it. the beauty of it is, it works. at least it does so far. it's electronic, and so i'm not expecting it to last more than 4 or 5 years. face it, none of this electric junk we are becoming dependent on lasts longer than that. so if i can get 5 years i'll be tickled pink.now for the fun part, i got this thing about 3 weeks ago and i have been playing with it ever since. it's addictive. just look where you are wanting to range and push the button, and walla it tells you how far it is. so far it hasn't missed a beat. i started playing a little game, guess how far it is before i range it, so i can teach myself how far stuff is so when this thing finally nose dives hopefully i will have develeped a skill of good estimation.as always your milage may vary. but so far i am pleased with my purchase, and i would highly recommend the bushnell. i would recommend it more if it was cheaper, but it is what it is.

5Great for golf!!!
By J. Wolfe
I bought this Bushnell Elite 1500 Rangefinder to use for golf. It is similar to the Bushnell Pinseeker model and was just a little bit cheaper. I used this product today during a round of golf and found it to be very helpful and extremely accurate. Most of my playing partners were asking me to shoot their yardage for them after I had done so for myself. It definitely takes the guesswork out of which club to choose and exactly how far you have to the pin. You can also shoot trees and other landmarks such as bunkers to give you an idea of which clubs to hit to avoid that trouble.I would highly recommend this for any golfer or hunter who needs to find out exactly how far they are away from a particular target. The value is unbeatable. Amazon has the cheapest prices by far!!

5Great for Golf too!!
By L. Huber
Even though this is marketed as a hunting range finder it works excellent for golf. The bullseye feature is the same as pinseeker. I can easily get the yardage from the flag at 250 yards. Buy this!! For either hunting or golf, this is the best!!

5Good base radio, lacks some features
By Robert C
I have one of these and have been using it for a long time. It allows you to program a nice range of channels, you can set 6 stations and it gives you 3 sets of 6 for FM for a total of 18 FM programming slots. You also get room to program 6 AM channels. This is a pretty baseline radio however, and doesn't have much more than a CD drive to speak of for additional features. It would be great if it had an aux in or something of the sort, however it does not. Overall it does get the job done.
