5Some of the best chimes on the planet
By J. Anderson
These chimes (like all I've ever heard from Music of the Spheres) are glorious. The alto range is very pleasant and rich, the whole tone tuning shimmers. Being at least an octave lower than most chimes, there is no hint of shrillness. And most importantly (since they were a Christmas gift for her), my wife loves them.

4Absolutely beautiful
By Gramalove
I ordered these because of the reviews. They are beautiful. I ordered the Alto. They are very pricey so make sure you listen to them online before purchase. Mine might be a little large (size) so it takes quite a strong wind to hear them play. It sounds like an elaborate doorbell ringing outside. If I had it to do over, I might have gotten just one size smaller.....who knows. We do enjoy them and would purchase chimes again. I told my neighbors to call me if they sound too loud this summer when their windows are open and I will move them to another spot.

5Music of the Spheres is the best.
By Gary
If you're looking for a quality wind chime, go ahead and get the best. You'll be glad you did. Got Westminster for myself several months ago, and then got Whole Tone Alto as a housewarming gift. Pleased with both, and the folks I bought this one for really, really love it.

5Quality item
By BSTJ
I have owned a larger version of these chimes for over 5 years. They hang from a large oak tree and survived being out through hurricane Ike. They have a lovely tone and are still as good as new.

5beautiful music
By Richard L. Williams
Have had a "Music of the Spheres" Gypsy Alto wind chime for years. This particular chime is basically whole tones in B flat. It is the most beautiful chime us old folks have ever heard. A MUST if you love wind chimes.

4Haunting - even eerie!
By P. Goddard
I purchased both the Mezzo and Soprano version of the Gypsy chimes for a very unusual purpose. I couldn't possibly put up wind chimes in or near my abode, because it is a small flat in a social housing scheme in Exeter city centre, UK. Instead I have started a project called 'Wind Chimes in the Wild - Symphonies of Wind Chimes and Nature', in which I take sets of wind chimes out to a reasonably wild and natural location and hang them up on trees to make fairly lengthy recordings of them as part of natural soundscapes. You can read about this project and listen to excerpts from my recordings on Freesound.org - you can find the relevant page by doing an Internet search for "symphonies of wind chimes" (complete with the double quotes).I mention this because my own requirements and interest are different from most people's. What I had available to compare with these chimes were some excellent and equally well crafted wind chimes from Woodstock. What I found was that, yes, the Music of the Spheres chimes sound wonderful and 'out of this world', but actually they are really a bit more 'out of this world' than I really wanted, and they are difficult for me to combine really effectively with the chimes from other sources. The reason is both the black finish, and, I think, a slightly greater thickness of the tube walls. These conspire to encourage a pronounced 'note' tone but to give it only weak higher harmonics. The sound, then, is penetrating, and carries further than my Woodstock 'silver' finish chimes, and it has a particularly ethereal quality, which many people would absolutely love, but it is not so good for my purposes, because it is more fatiguing to listen to fairly closely for extended periods as in my recordings. It lacks the 'sheen' and airiness of tone, then, that my Woodstock chimes have and I would really prefer. To put it another way, my Woodstock chimes have a shining, 'daylight' quality about their sound, whereas the Music of the Spheres chimes have something of a 'nocturnal' sound - beautiful but lacking in light.I recognised this issue before I made my purchase, but I still bought these chimes because I know of no other source for quality chimes with the Gypsy tuning, which I particularly wanted to use in some recordings. If Woodstock had been offering this tuning, especially in a 'silver' finish, I would have jumped for that instead. These Mezzo chimes have a much more ponderous and doleful sound than the soprano version, which is still haunting, but works really 'magically' when both versions are sounding together (which is particularly why I bought both versions).Because the the tone of these chimes is not fully 'there' for me, I rate them with four stars, but I would emphasize that for most people they would be a five-star job.

5Best Chimes ever.
By Diane
These chimes are large and the 'wind catcher' is about 4" square. I was a little concerned about the size, them being too loud. This is not a problem. I was replacing a bell chime right outside my door that has some wind protection. The sound is wonderful, every time I pass I blow the wind catcher for the light melody. It has a deeper sound and reminds one of church bells. The only down side is if the wind is really strong the tubes will hit each other and then the sound is somewhat clanking. As I'm typing I can hear the melody. Even my husband who never notices chimes asked me what that wonderful sound was.

5Beautiful Music...
By Tian2
This is the 3rd "Music of the Spheres" windchime I own - and the largest. It is about as tall as I am! They all sound wonderful, and harmonize beautifully. One chime is over 20 years old, and still holding up to the weather. These chimes are worth their price! The size and weight of the Bass chime makes it a bit trickier to hang than the others (the mezzo soprano & the alto), and it needs a fastener about 8' up.The sound samples are OK, but the real thing is even better.

5Most soothing
By Jennifer A. Nagar
First, let me say that I'm not a "wind chime" person. I can't stand the clingy-clangy "noise" I hear coming from people's yard. This Chime is expensive no doubt, but, you cannot produce the quality sound you get with cheeper materials, simply put. That is the secret of this chime. With just a slight wind, I love the faint, soothing, calming tones I hear, as I move about my yard. The immediately give a sense of calming zen.

5Simple yet beautiful sounding
By Colin J. Parker
These chimes are incredibly beautiful sounding. You can listen to recordings of each of the scales on the Music of the Spheres website. We immediately knew that the Japanese tones were ideal for our little mountain getaway and when they arrived the sound was even better than anticipated. We leave them up all the time, even during meditation, and they have yet to irritate us or any guests. In spite of this I think it would be nice to be able to temporarily disconnect the swinging striker. As it is you have to take the whole thing down to prevent sound from being generated... Still, five stars.

5Sonic pleasure
By Robert Hearne
We purchased this item along with the Japanese Soprano chimes to help make our urban bungalow's porch setting a bit more idyllic. The manufacturer's web site has a few recommended combinations that work great together. They were right on the money with this combo. The sound of this wind chime alone is very pleasant - mixed with the other wind chime, the tones are great. They just settle the whole place down in the midst of the hustle and bustle of neartown Houston. The items are also very well made and IMHO well worth the expense relative to other, cheaper versions.

5beautiful tone
By Winesnob10
I purchased these chimes as a gift and they were a great hit. The tone is beautiful and the wind catcher is a good weight so the chimes don't clank violently in higher winds. Really a great housewarming gift.

5Simply the best chimes
By Jason Hickerson
I bought these chimes as a present for my parents. They are beautifully made and sound amazing. You can select the scale of notes you want by visiting the Music of the Spheres website and listening to samples of the chimes playing. And if you know a little about music theory or have a favorite scale, you can custom order the notes you want in your chime. The Balinese scale shown here has a very ethereal, meditative sound that is super relaxing. My wife and I both liked it best after listening to all the samples independently. We chose the Mezzo size because we didn't want a "tinkly" sounding chime and this one was low-pitched enough without breaking the bank. If you have a bit more money to spend, the Tenor and Baritone sizes are really otherworldly. If you are unfamiliar with this type of chime, the hollow, tuned cylinders hold their tones a long time compared to other solid type chimes which simply clink together. Highly recommended.
